Product Description

Byron Renfield has spent years climbing the social ladder, and is now successful, handsome, independently wealthy. . .and a vampire. For over two centuries, he's held the honored position of Treasurer of his Clan's most sacred Trust. He's also been responsible for the financial security of the most elite of the immortals, the Dominie. In order to ensure his redemption, Byron isolated himself on a small private island, away from all temptation. It was a good plan. . .until the day Violet Deeds was stranded there. Violet is beautiful, sexy, outspoken, and a human, which makes her completely off limits. His society's canon may forbid relationships between vampires and humans, but will that be enough to help Byron and Violet conquer the intensity of their attraction to one another? Or will Byron succumb and take a little nibble? This is a fresh new twist on the classic vampire tale of seduction. Extremely erotic, Forbidden The Claim has a hero that you'll want to spend eternity with and a heroine you'll envy. It's the first in what is surely going to be a fabulously successful series for Samantha Sommersby.

Overpriced and Disappointing2
This book was sadly disappointing. There was no depth to the characters. There was no attempt to build an emotional tie between them which is essential if one is to believe their story will continue. Their attraction to each other was told- it was described. It was not allowed to develop through the character's words and actions. While the story line had some appeal, there was not enough intensity to keep me wanting to turn the page.

Ms. Sommersby described the hero as an old-world character with ancient beliefs who had remained isolated for many years- a good premise that was blown apart by consistently having him think and speak in modern day slang. It was billed as a sexy erotic novel. It was neither erotic nor sexy. It takes more than a few words like "[...]" thrown into a text to pull a reader into the moment and make them feel that erotic sensation, that passion. I'm sorry to say Ms. Sommersby didn't come close.

One would assume if a man- vampire or not- was willing to throw away all that he had achieved over several centuries for a woman- she would be in some way special. There was nothing especially redeemable or unique about the heroine. I came away feeling this guy had been alone for so long any female wearing a skirt would have caused the same reaction. Page 6: "It had been so long since I'd been in the presence of a woman.. I had forgotten how enticing they could be."

Need I say more?

Over-priced and falling far short of the hype of some of the reviews, I would not recommend this book. Nor would I be tempted to purchase another in this series.

This interesting vampire world is worth 3 stars, but I gave it 2 stars because it's unfinished. The ending is in Book 2.2
STORY BRIEF:
In this paranormal world, vampires eat normal food and drink. They don't require human blood. As they get stronger, they can exist in sunlight. Ren is a vampire who successfully manages funds for the vampire community. He lives on a private island near his friend Grace. Violet and Grace (humans) have been pen pal friends for years. Violet comes to visit, not knowing that Grace recently died. Ren and Violet are immediately drawn to each other. Violet encourages intimacy but Ren refuses to have sex, fighting his own desires. It is against vampire rules to mate with humans.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
The story is told from Ren's perspective. There is not much character development. Most of the story is she wants, he wants, but he refuses to give in. I didn't feel the emotional pull, anticipation or passion that I normally like in romance novels. But I did like it because it was odd and a little different, for a vampire story. This is a very short story and unfinished. At the end, the problem has not been solved, but Ren has a plan. I was unsatisfied because I wanted to see if and how his plan would work. One must read the sequel "Forbidden: The Awakening" to finish the story. Both books are very short with each telling half the story. They should have been combined into one book.

Great Series Starter5
Excellent contemporary erotic vampire series starter. Heat and lots of it, humor and intelligence. The winning triad for me. Other reviewers have provided well written story summaries; I won't be redundant. I loved the premise and fell into the story line immediately. I really love the authors new twist on the vampire alpha male. Byron Renfield "Ren" is everything you could want in an Alpha male vampire hero; sexy, very hot, but Ren also has elements of a sensitive romantic nerd rolled in to his character. A "he had me at hello" kind of guy. The tension and attraction between Ren and his HEA Violet is drawn in a way that raises your blood pressure and occasionally gets one's tear ducts working.

My only complaint; it was over too soon. I immediately downloaded the next two stories and read all night. I cannot wait for the next, fourth book in the series. I am hoping for a long relationship with this series.

While the story is short and pricey for a hard copy, it is worth the price if hard copy is what you require. I found it at allromanceebooks.com for a much lower price in the electronic format. However, having read it, I would happily pay the hard copy price now. I am hoping though that the publisher may think of combining the first two books into one larger book. They really belong together.
