Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
Urging readers to relish the wealth they already have, the authors ( Life 101 ) define wealth as "health, happiness, abundance, prosperity, riches, loving caring, sharing, learning, knowing what we want, opportunity, enjoying and balance." In reworking the concept of wealth, they dismantle widespread negative beliefs about money, e.g., "Money is the root of all evil," and stress the importance of maintaining a balance between "getting what you want and enjoying what you've got." Each page of text is faced with a pithy and usually humorous quotation as the authors reiterate positive-thinking techniques, spiritualism and familiar advice about such mundane matters as time management. Checklists and mental exercises to help the reader set and maintain goals are included in this sometimes challenging, often frothy and mostly entertaining self-help book. 150,000 first printing; $300,000 ad/promo; author tour.

From AudioFile
To characterize this recording of the authors' best-selling New Age guide to wealth as "laid-back" would be an understatement. The entire presentation is less like a reading than a chat with well-read friends. The four readers balance each other well except when they try to imitate well-known characters in quotes from movies and television. At one point McWilliams even apologizes for a botched attempt at a foreign accent. Still, the informality of the presentation is appropriate to the tone of the book and is done with such warmth and good humor that it's easy to forgive a few shortcomings, including several instances of poor editing on the tapes. Attaining the Wealth You Deserve...5
...another of the great Life 101 Series Peter McWilliams (this is with John-Roger) is over 500 pages of solid gold advice and affirmations. The authors define wealth (40 pages of ways of looking at life), then money--and how important it is in the overall scheme of things. They show you how to enjoy what you already have...the section "You Can Have Anything You Want, but you Can't have Everything You Want" is kind of a summary statement for the entire journey presented here, but then the authors tell you, "Obtaining Is Easy; Maintaining is Hard"...they suggest that it is all an Inside Job. One which requires a bit of maintenance. They then tell you how to get more of anything you want. Money. Popularity. How to win the Powerball. (Just kidding on that last item.) Well, if they don't have the "How to" on winning the Powerball, they have the "How to" on how to enjoy the winnings. Every other page is an appropriate quote to suit the
writers' text and one can find enjoyment out of reading these alone if one is so inclined. Oprah Winfrey gives the gist of the
authors' major intention. She says "Before I had money I was really quite happy. And, I will tell you this...I never would have gotten the money If I wasn't happy to begin with". Again, it is written with those who are Brain Numb (like I am) in mind. Even if you don't become wealthy overnight, you would have taken a step in the right direction to achieve wealth and financial stability by getting this great book.

A Book to Live by...5
I've been reading and re-reading this book for years. I just bought it for a couple of friends that I thought could use the inspiration and humor that this book lends. Although I can get a little bored with all the quotes sometimes I always enjoy the message. It's one of those books you can just open the page and get a message from when you need it. Love it as well as Life 101, which I read first. Both are fun practical guides to getting into perspective during challenging times.
