In my opinion, one of the greatest books ever written. I recommend it particularly for students of Vedanta and Buddhism.

A fascinating story of discovery on the Silk Road. It has lots of good information on Chinese history in the region. The color plates are incredible.

This is a great college dictionary. The CD has the entire text of the American Heritage Dictionary of the English language.

I highly recommend this book. This is one of many Buddhist texts that were discovered in the Mogao grottos at Dunhuang, China, in the early part of the last century. The texts translated in this book represent some of the earliest writings in the Ch'an tradition. I visited the Mogao grottos in April 2008.

This is a great collection of letters and lectures by Zen Master Ta Hui.

These teachings are very clear and awakening.

This book contains wonderful Ch'an poetry from the mountains and rivers tradition circa 4th century C.E. The images of nature are inspirational. From the book: "It's all an empty boat, oars dangling free, but return goes on without end." "Move with the change through rough and smooth, and life's never up or down." "A bent arm my only pillow, I keep emptiness whole."

This nine volume collection of lectures, poems, and letters by Swami Vivekananda is highly recommended for students of Vedanta. His lectures and writings are powerful.

This is a wonderful book with sayings of Zen masters spanning over a period of over one thousand years. This book stimulated my interest in learning more about Ch'an (aka Zen) Buddhism. This book is also included in Cleary's Classics of Buddhism and Zen, Volume 1. From the book: "The great way is right before our eyes, but it is still hard to see what is right before our eyes."

This was my my main travel guide for my trip along the Silk Road in China in April 2008. It has detailed information on history and many beautiful color photos and maps.

I really enjoyed reading about places I visited in April 2008, such as Turpan and Dunhuang. I saw extensive damage of Buddhist wall paintings in grottos that were surveyed by the early archaelogical expeditions described in this book.

This is a fine book of quotations by Ch'an masters that I don't recall reading in Cleary's Classics of Buddhism and Zen (Volumes 1-5). It is well worth the purchase, particularly if you enjoy the Pocket Classics editions.

This book is really informative. It doesn't have many color plates but lots of B&W photos. It gets into some detail on the symbolism of the Thai temple as a representation of Mount Meru. I recommend this book to anyone interested in Buddhist temple architecture and religious symbolism.
