Amazon.com Product Description
The Stanley Powerlock 25-Foot by 1-Inch Measuring Tape is a classic, and for good reason. Designed for professionals and weekend warriors alike, this top-notch product offers maximum usability in all types of measuring situations. Equipped with a range of useful goodies, the highly-portable tape will meet just about anyone’s needs. Standard features include a lockable blade for precise measurements and minimal slippage, a belt hook for easy access, a 1-inch wide blade for easy reading, and 16-inch and 19.2-inch stud center markings. Plus, Stanley has added a heat-treated spring to increase the tape’s lifespan.
Two unique features make this tape a standout. First, the blade is coated with mylar to help it stand up to abrasion associated with repeated use. Second, the patented Tru-Zero hook doubles as a pivot for drawing circles and arcs, and it automatically adjusts to handle inside or outside measurements. What this means is that the hook on the end has a small amount of play that is equivalent to the thickness of the hook blade. This is so that when you measure with the hook inside a stop (like a window jam), the front end of the hook is the zero point. When you hook it over the edge of a board, the zero point becomes the back of the hook.
Stanley does make a host of other measuring tools that may be worth checking out. At such a great price, most users can’t go wrong with this one.

The Stanley Story
The Stanley Works, originally a bolt and door hardware manufacturing company located in New Britain, Connecticut; was founded in 1843 by Frederick T. Stanley. A few years later, in 1857, Frederick’s cousin, Henry Stanley, founded The Stanley Rule and Level Company. In 1920, The Rule and Level Company merged with The Stanley Works and would go on to become it’s famous Hand Tools Division. Over the years, The Stanley Works has produced some of the most innovative and useful tools ever made. Among these tools are the Bailey Plane, the Surform shaper, the PowerLock tape rule and most recently the FatMax line of products. Today, more than ever, Stanley continues to be an industry leader in tool innovation. In 2001, Stanley introduced more than 100 new products, bringing to 400 the number of new products introduced in the past four years. As a direct result of Stanley’s commitment to excellence, Stanley was awarded the Prestigious Golden Hammer Award, presented for New Product Innovation in both 2000 and 2001.

A few astonishing features have made this product the leader in the industry. The mylar coated blade for unsurpassed durability, blade lasts up to 10 times longer in comparative tests of abrasion resistance. There is a heat treated spring for longer useful product life. The Tru-Zero hook automatically adjusts to allow for its own thickness giving exact readings for either inside or outside measurements. The blade is two colored graphics for better readability and fewer measuring mistakes.
Customer Reviews
indispensable tool
The most important part of any project is getting the measurements right. This is the most accurate tape rule I have ever found. Both inside and outside measurements. After almost 20 years of continual use I have to buy another due to a small tear at 5". This is simply the best tape rule you can buy.
Standard tape measure for the construction trade...
Stanley 33-425 Powerlock 25-Foot by 1-Inch Measuring Tape
Pros:
- Based on the several of these I've used frequently for over 25 years, these high quality tapes have a long life.
- Locking lever works well with little effort, and the tape doesn't slip once locked.
- Spring assisted tape return is just right - neither too fast or too slow.
- Easy to read numbers and lines (to 1/16"), with stud markers every 16". There are no metric markings.
- Belt hook slips onto my belt reliably.
- Accuracy between tapes is perfect. There are no problems in measuring something with one Stanley tape and marking the cut with a different Stanley tape.
- Most tape holsters I've seen appear to be designed to hold THIS tape measure.
- One inch wide tapes such as this Stanley are a good compromise between unsupported tape standout and tape curvature affecting an accurate reading. E.g., wider tapes like the Fat Max have longer standout, but you really need to push that tape edge down to make a reading.
- Even though a section of one of my Stanley tapes gets wet occasionally, I've never had one rust.
- At this price, it's a bargain.
Cons:
- Two improvements could be made: modify the end-of-tape hook to include a top hook, and the belt hook should "lock" onto your belt so it won't slip off so easily.
Summary:
If you need a 25' tape measure, and DON'T require the longest possible tape standout (as featured with the Fat Max style), this Stanley is a good choice.
Must Have for the Do-It-Yourselfer
You have to have a tape measure for do-it-yourself projects. I have three tape measures myself, including a Stanley. The belt clip is very handy, particularly when you are carrying lumber or are going up or down a ladder. The mylar coated blade helps keep the tape from rusting. A heat treated spring is a must for long life of any tape measure. I like the tape lock on this tape measure too. A tape measure I have from another company tends to allow the tape to move.
Stanley has become a well-known brand with quality products. I own several Stanley tools, including this tape measure. I recommend this one highly.
