Better than the alternatives
Before purchasing this item, I used a hand pad and regular handwraps to work out on my heavy bag; Now, I almost can't bear to use the traditional handwraps! They cushion and support my hands perfectly, allowing me to switch from traditional boxing to open-hand bag strikes without worrying about hurting my wrist from a lack of support. Two notes of caution, however: 1. They don't cover the finger knuckles very well, so it is probably a good idea to invest in some tape to cover these spots, and 2. If you are hard on these gloves, they will tear open at the seams. But hey, for $20, you wouldn't expect to have them last forever, right?
beware
I have bought a pair of these. Looked just fine and felt comfortable. But be careful if you use them an a bag alone, i.e. without bag gloves. They can be easily torn. I was surprised how fast they got damaged on a light bag. Everlast website read that these gloves can be used alone on a bag. But I think it's better to use them as a hand wrap for a bag glove and not as a glove itself.
Dissapointed in quality
So I'm just starting to get into boxing at the gym I go to that has a few heavy bags. I ordered some boxing gloves but figured this would be good for some extra protection. I got these in before my boxing gloves and was excited to use them. I put them on and they felt great the the wrist wrap was good support. I ordered the regular which felt snug but left my middle of the finger exposed...which wasn't a big deal. The knuckles felt great. I figured even though they are supposed to be used for the speed bag and not a heavy bag, I could get one or two workouts from them before the gloves came in on the heavy bag.
Now let me preface all this with I am not a big guy at all. I would like to say I have a punch the equivalent of a truck...but I'd be lying. I worked with the gloves on the bag for maybe 5 to 10 minutes and it was feeling great. I took look at them during a break and they were already tearing in 3 places on the knuckles. Whether that is from the size being to small or from the hitting bag, I don't know for sure, but probably a combo. I was a bit dissapointed.
I won't give it lower than a 3 because I did use them in a way they are supposed to be used so I was asking for them to rip, but my weighlifting gloves which are not supposed to be used on a bag at all have lasted through many workouts, and these gave out in 10 minutes. Pretty much, if you're going to use them on the speed bag or under gloves I'm sure they work great. Don't bother on the heavy bag. They run a bit small too so most people the regular would probably be to small.
