Vast improvement in gameplay
Fifa 07 hasn't changed much in terms of its graphics or commentary. They've added only one new league -- the Turkish league. But it only looks similar on the surface. Actual game play has been completely overhauled. Contested headers don't automatically go to one player, crosses have some curve to them. It's no longer easy to score by a straight cross from the corner. There are more volleys. The ball moves in more realistic ways. Deflections sometimes go in the air. Shots result in a greater variety of visual outcomes.
So, playing this game is a lot more realistic. It's a lot like the winning eleven series, except that it has the benefit of all of the official league licenses and all of the other nice stuff that the series has always had. I haven't explored the manager option yet, so I can't really comment on that. Overall, a great upgrade.
OK but not the best Fifa game
I've been an avid Fifa player since the mid 90's having owned the original Fifa game and a constant player ever since.
I had high hopes for Fifa 07 because of its competition, Winning Eleven.
Winning Eleven has taken a lot of Fifa's marketshare in the last two years and I don't believe Fifa 07 will help EA in regaining any of that.
I have been playing the game extensively for over a month
Here are my Pros and Cons of the game.
Pros:
-Fully licensed teams and players.(Important to a lot of gameplayers)
-Online Gameplay (I mention this because they brought in a new concept...now your allowed to play in a real group based league with your favorite team...so lets say your a Man UTD fan...and in real life...they play Portsmouth this weekend...online..all Man Utd fans are scheduled to play all Portsmouth fans....whoever has the overall best winning percentage are granted the win for that game).
-Manager Mode ( Their manager mode is not bad..i've actually enjoyed it...at the start, you get to choose any team you want to manage..your given a 1year contract, choose the sponsor you want, and you begin to play. Having to be aware of your Job Security, making ur fans happy(which means they will sell out your home games) and team morale is all part of it. sending scouts to other leagues, keep an eye on your Youth Academy, make sure your on Budget and importantly player contracts...(I will not ruin the suprise on that). Your given prestige points at the end of every season, which are based on how many of the board's expectations you have actually met, important becuase you will need to have a high prestige rank to land a contract with big clubs like Chelsea and Barcelona (which can take atleast 3-4 seasons to accomplish).
-Soundtrack: Not a bad soundtrack, like a few of the songs...thinking of downloading a few.
-Fifa Challenges: Another interesting concept...if u get bored of the game..this may help you accomplish something in the game...A challenge would be like : Score the winning goal in the last 5 minutes of the game against an England Club at the World Class Difficulty.
Cons-
-Gameplay: Besides the new moves and minor improvements to the gameplay from Fifa 06, they are not even close to that of Winning Eleven. Winning Eleven is a lot more fluid and realistic.
-Commentary: I normally like the commentary by Martin Tyler and Andy Gray but I hate the fact that in this game...they never mention the names of the team....they do a generic call of the game and do mention player names..
-Difficulty- Overall, not hard game....once u figure out the gameplay and master it...you can beat anyone. There is a higher Difficulty than world class...but you have to meet all these fifa challenges to get it.
-Graphics- Are better but are not the best.... the FMV when you enter a game or when you win a cup are short and BOOOOOOORRRRIIIINNGGGG from the get go.
-Strategy- Something I don't feel yet mastered in Fifa unlike winning eleven. In real life, there are different strategies to different teams that you play....Winning eleven was somewhat realistic with that regard...I would play team A...beat them by an overall attack through the middle ...team b...hardly penetrate the middle....used the wings more ...team c....could use the wings...no way was I going to win any headers against their defense...switch of tactics... and so forth....
In Fifa, you can use practically the same tatic your most comfortable with and beat any team.
Overall Assesment:
If you like the fact that they have all licensed teams, are a fan of manager modes and online gameplay...this game is for you.
Otherwise, if your like me...who feels gameplay is the most important concept of any sports game...you can buy this game so that you can get prepped up for Winning Eleven 10.
BTW, there is a huge expectation for Winning Eleven 10 being that 9 was exactly the same as 8, hence the nickname for 9: Winning Eleven 8 Online
Hope this is helpful
Im simply amazed about FIFA 07 on PS2
The game is incredible. The last Fifa game i had was Fifa 04, so obviously it would be better by comparison, but it is still a great game. The dribbling is cool. If you are playing against a friend, they better be careful anytime you have the ball, because with a variety of dribbling moves, it is difficult to stop. To make up for this, most moves are very difficult to execute. The free kicks are cool, as you can have two guys next to the ball, have one guy fake kick, and the next guy takes a quick shot. The finesse shot is useful too. It takes some power away, but helps get the shot on target. The manager mode is fun, as you can adjust ticket prices, pick sponsors, and make everyday decisions. The scouting program is cool, so you can pick up fresh, young talent. It includes a lot of clubs from new countries, and the international teams are still there. simply a great game. Fun to play.
