| Each girl is expected to have read at least 5 books over the course of the summer. Three of these books be selected from the Lower School Reading List or be written by authors featured on the reading list. The Reading List is broken into interest categories to help you narrow your search. Within the categories, titles are arranged with picture books at the beginning and progressing through easy readers to chapter books. Here is a comfortable method to help you and your daughter select her books. Ask her to open the book to the middle and read a paragraph. Listen to see if she struggles with any words. Ask her then to summarize what happened. If she needs help with more than five words, or if she seems unable to explain the action, she will probably have trouble reading the book on her own. At this point, you can offer to read it aloud to her or suggest she sample another book. Happy Reading! Nina Coffin, Director of Libraries ncoffin@springside.org and the Summer Reading Committee | ||
