The story concentrates on the romance between Britain's King Henry VIII (Richard Burton) and his ill-fated second wife Anne Boleyn (Genevieve Bujold). After holding out for marriage rather than an illegitimate union, Anne marries Henry after he sheds himself of Katherine of Aragon -- causing a rift between the Crown and the Church in the process. Anne's inability to produce a male heir leads Henry to look about for other suitable mates. Henry's sinister right-hand man Cromwell (John Colicos) arranges for Anne to be condemned on a charge of adultery. She is beheaded, while Henry disconsolately sits in Windsor Castle, regretting this callous example of political expediency. Richard Burton is ideally cast in Anne of the Thousand Days, but it is Genevieve Bujold who delivers the best, most complex performance in the film. Excellent movie
When will I be able to get "Anne of the Thousand Days" in U.S.A. DVD format?
This is one movie I can watch over and over. Great acting.
This film is much better than "The Tutors" series on Showtime.

Anne of the thousand Days
Anne of the Thousand Days [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2&4 Import - Great Britain ] I so so so very much want this product on USA format. I have had it on a VHS for more than 25 years and it is an excellent movie. Any idea why it is not available in US format or when it might be?

Perfect
As a serious Tudor historian, I'm normally scornful of all historical dramas, pedantic about their inaccuracy. But this beautiful creation manages to be true to the drama and passion of the characters involved, while also clearly portraying the greater ideological and cultural conflicts at stake. Sure, not every detail is accurate, but it's a wonderful, gut-wrenchingly tragic movie. A classic. Everyone should watch it.
