NICE DOCUMENTARY
I purchased this one out of curiosity, it turned out to be very good. As a blues lover this is great to see a legend speak in his own words about himself, you see the serious side of him, and yes he has an excellent sense of humor. There are a lot of good interviews with people he knows, this man has got a lot of class. This is a two disc set, one is music the other the documentary, the music disc is of course great. But the documentary is the best I have seen for a while, but the sound quality on this is not the best. I would say overall this was a good find, and he is ninety four years old and just released a new album in May of 2008. He is one of a kind, blues lovers will enjoy this.
Nice Musical Documentary
To know that as of mid 2009, Pinetop Perkins and Honeyboy Edwards are still carrying on and relevant is amazing as they are the final survivors among actual players from the legendary delta blues era in the 30s and beyond.
If you are in to the life-story of a true original delta bluesman musician with live performances intermittently placed and many other musicians providing stories and insight about Pinetop, then this is a must see.
On a trivial note, the narrator mentioned Pinetop played in Cairo IL (pronounced it "keye-row" as in Egypt) ... it is pronounced "Kare-o" officially by the locals.
I highly recommend the DVD Honeyboy about David "Honeyboy" Edwards if you liked Pine-top ... another great story and performances by a 95+ year old delta blues legend.
