The second album of hers I bought, during Columbia's opera boom of the late 70s. The selections here represent stage successes, future recording projects, and her beloved Offenbach.

She is to Cenerentola what Julie Andrews is to Sound of Music. No one comes close to bringing Cinderella alive like Flicka! This Ponelle production is utterly fabulous.

Reaching for the ethereal, she joins some impressive company as Debussy's enigmatic heroine Melisande. Probably the best studio recording of this opera in the last few decades.

She was perfection in the role of Desdemona, so much so that, to my recollection, no other studio recording of this opera has since been produced. Why bother?

More Mozart on the Met stage. Again in trousers as Idamante, she excels in a cast of highest caliber. Nice try on the Pav's part...but this is German Opera in Italian, not Italian Opera.

This is a guilty pleasure and not for the weak of stomach because Rex Smith is actually part of the celebration. Melba Moore is sweet, though. Flicka seems as at home in Austria as she does in Paris.

Flicka in her youngest trouser role as Hansel to Judith Blegen's Gretel.....such a charming production from her Met days.

She often sings Offenbach selections at gala performances. This CD is a repository for them, using her very colorful voice and winning temperament to mine the humor and tenderness of the composer.

More excellent Mahler Lieder with Flicka and Andrew Davis. Judith Raskin is also impressive in the symphony.

More of the Baroque Flicka in collaboration with her admirer Leppard. She makes forgotten works like this one worth reviving.

More trousers.....she's a great Octavian, but other singers and the conductor are not ideal. It's a shame there's no DVD with a different supporting cast.
