Use a training kite, take a lesson, and watch this video. This video is great. Although I cannot compare it to other videos, I must say that it is well-structured, great angles, great-added footage, and lots to see. Effectively there are three parts.... for beginners, intermediates, and advanced. I used it as a beginner and as an intermediate rider. It does its job to show you everything.. From using a trainer, rigging your kite, to water and land starts, and then some! The only thing I didn't like was the shameless naish promotion.

Comprehensive Kiteboarding Guide
Superb instruction and very complete. Don't even think about strapping on a kite or board until you watch this.. even before taking kiteboarding lessons. Keep it as a go-to guide while you progress and learn since all levels are covered from beginner to expert and many lessons are provided on safety and what to do when you get in trouble. Have fun!

pretty good, but not very in depth
the Complete Kiteboarding Guide is a decent enough DVD, with several hours of instructional footage, interviews with kiteboarding stars and plenty of tips and hints to get you started. Despite that however, the DVD rips through the subject matter most suited to the beginner, and is quickly on to the more advanced information on jumps, tricks and turns.

If you're buying this book as a supplement to your training lessons, which it really should be, then the Complete Kiteboarding Guide will add more background. If you're looking for an instructional video to take you from beginner up, then really you should keep looking.
