Product Description

Leo's a lovable little lightning bug, but he has a big problem: no light! This leads to teasing by the other bugs and an unhappy Leo. But with determination, motherly support, and a little luck, Leo eventually lights up the night. Transformed by his newfound confidence, he now laughs at himself, plays with the other bugs, and enjoys a good night's sleep. Included in this enchanting picture book -- a Book Sense 76 Children's Pick and Los Angeles Times Children's bestseller -- is a dramatic audio CD, complete with sound effects. James Muscarello's magical chalk drawings bring Leo's world to life.

From the Publisher
"Leo the Lightning Bug" is a unique picture book in that the author (Eric Drachman), illustrator (James Muscarello), and graphic designer (Andrew Leman) all played an important and cooperative part in creating the look and content of the book. (Usually, publishing companies keep these creative types apart from one another and "direct" the book from the sidelines.) Eric also recorded and edited the sound on the audio CD as the illustrations were coming to life, using James' characterizations in choosing takes and making editing choices.

From the Author
I was inspired to write "Leo the Lightning Bug" one summer while watching a tremendous thunder storm from a screened in porch in the woods. The lightning was striking all around the cottage when I saw a little lightning bug fly by the screen lighting up his own light! I thought to myself, "I wonder if he thinks he's doing all of this?!?" ...and Leo was born. His struggle (with his small size and lack of self-confidence) is not unique to fireflies in the woods - all kids (and most adults) can relate to Leo's adventure.

Customer Reviews

I love this book!5
"Leo the Lightning Bug" is a book that has a touching message that applies to
each and every one of us. It is one of those rare children's books that
imparts a feeling of self worth and courage. It is sensitive, funny, sad, and
exciting - without a single unengaged moment. The illustrations are
expressive and delightful. The enclosed CD is especially wonderful. The sound
effects and music are beautifully incorporated into the story. The voices,
including children's voices, make the story and its characters irrisistable.
I love this book, and every child (or adult) to whom I have shown it, also
loves it. I recommend "Leo the Lightning Bug" for everyone. It will be one
book that you listen to over and over again and will want to keep for your
grandchildren!

Enhanced with an accompanying audio CD5
Expertly illustrated by James Muscarello, Leo The Lightning Bug is a lavish color picturebook written by Eric Drachman and enhanced with an accompanying audio CD. The CD features the author narrating Leo's story, with five-year-old Benjamin Drachman as the voice of Leo. Sound effects and page turn prompts make the CD extremely easy to follow, and the delightful story of Leo's adventures makes for excellent reading just before bedtime. Leo The Lightening Bug is a welcome addition to family, school, and community library book/CD collections for young readers.

A totally charming book for young readers!5
This adorable book not only enraptured me but it also delighted my six-year-old daughter as well. She not only read the book herself, she also played the CD and read along with it.

Leo is just an enchanting little character who endears himself to young and old readers alike. I know I was right in there pulling for him to finally learn how to light up the night. I commiserated with him when his friends teased him and was joyful when he finally practiced until he got it right!

I highly recommend this enchanting book. It is the perfect book for parents and grandparents to read to their children and grandchildren. It is guaranteed to delight readers of all ages.
