Product Description

From B is for Brooklyn Bridge to K is for Kodak and onward to T is for Fort Ticonderoga, "E is for Empire" is an alphabet book that introduces children and adults to New York State's history, culture and landscape in a unique two-tiered approach. A quick rhyme offers children facts about New York from A to Z. Alongside each rhyme, older readers gain a deeper understanding of the topic by reading the longer expository text.

Editorial Reviews

Review
"E is for Empire, the Erie Canal, and a new children?s book that celebrates New York?s History, locations, natural treasures and famous residents. The book, E is for Empire: A New York State Alphabet, even makes room for Jell-O, the iconic dessert created in Le Roy. Author Ann E. Burg and illustrator Maureen K. Brookfield use simple poems to explore the history of New York State in an effort to educate and entertain young readers, while sidebar expository text delves deeper into the facts and provides older readers with more substantive background information."

Learning America State by State5
This is a great idea put together! By taking the alphabet and teaching kids a neat way by using rhymes to learn A to Z interesting facts on history and culture about each state in America. I pick this one as my favorite about the state of New York. Each letter describes a featured N.Y. landmark, like B is for Brooklyn. H is for Henry Hudson the explorer from which the river is named after. I wish they had books like this when I was a kid. What's so bad about a book that can educate kids with lots of original, intelligent contents. All 50 states are fun to collect, too-because of all the really beautifully illustrated works.

this entire series is fantastic! the pictures are great. the information is easy. Two levels - the basic is appropriate for childrens ages 3-6 while on the side there is a higher level of information regarding the book you are reading. This literally grows with your child. Hats off all involved with the series - I cannot rave enough over these books.
