![]() | Stepmonster: A New Look at Why Real Stepmothers Think, Feel, and Act the Way We Do by Wednesday Martin
Buy new: $16.50 / Used from: $15.73 Less self-help and more an academic (but highly readable) exploration of the often neglected role and position of stepmothers within psychological and sociological research. Very enlightening, very acknowledging but also unexpectedly practical.

![]() | Smart Stepmom, The: Practical Steps to Help You Thrive by Ron Deal
Buy new: $10.07 / Used from: $7.95 The best practical stepmothering guide Ive read. Very Christian in focus (I'm a secular humanist) yet still offering powerful strategies and new insights into stepmum, bio-dad and step child perspectives. The two chapters designed for bio-dads were especially good. I wouldnt have bought this book if I'd realised it was written from a Christian viewpoint, but that would have been my loss!

![]() | The Package Deal: My (not-so) Glamorous Transition from Single Gal to Instant Mom by Izzy Rose
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $3.99 Not a how-to, but sometimes it's very liberating to read an account of someone else's step situation that you can enjoy without feeling the need to take notes or work through chapter questions. I really enjoyed this.

![]() | The Single Girl's Guide to Marrying a Man, His Kids, and His Ex-Wife: Becoming A Stepmother With Humor And Grace by Sally Bjornsen
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $6.22 Some useful stuff, but I felt like whacking the author's husband at times, especially after the infamous kid-trips-stepmum-kid-gets-hug-from-Dad incident.

![]() | Stepmotherhood: How to Survive Without Feeling Frustrated, Left Out, or Wicked, Revised Edition by Cherie Burns
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $3.50 This is a great book if you need reassurance that what you are feeling is normal - basically, it's a good "you're not alone" stepmothering book. Don't do what I did and read it for a quick pick-me-up, though, or you'll just end up feeling miserable.
