Product Description

Praise for Commodity Strategies

"I have read many books on Point & Figure charting, but this is the first in its category-on the application of the time-tested methodology of Point & Figure charting, in particular, the concept of 'relative strength,' to pick outperforming commodities as well as to achieve diversification of non-correlated assets. If you are looking for a profitable and comprehensive methodology to making money from the commodity and currency markets and ETFs, look no further-you have found it. This book has it all."
-Fred Tam, MPhil, CFTe, MSTA, lecturer in technical analysis at

University Malaya and Open University Malaysia

"Tom Dorsey is a market wizard who continues to stimulate the investor's mind. Commodity Strategies is powerful from start to finish with charts and many interesting insights. It's a clear guide for anyone looking to expand their investment horizon."
-Joseph Barrato, EVP of Investment Strategies, Arrow Funds

"This book and Dorsey's commodity strategies provide a much-needed, disciplined, and risk-managed framework for when and how to incorporate commodities into a portfolio. His investment methodologies along with the evolution of ETFs into alternative asset classes like commodities and currencies are a match made in heaven."
-H. Bruce Bond, President and CEO, PowerShares Capital Management

Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

To make money in today's commodity markets, you have to feel comfortable with the approach you're using and have the patience and discipline to adhere to that approach no matter what the markets may do. Unfortunately, too many people either don't take the time to develop an approach that works in this field or, having developed one, find excuses to ignore it in their search for greater profits.

With Commodity Strategies as your guide, however, you'll quickly discover how to excel in this arena by using the Point & Figure method of analysis—a technique borne out of the irrefutable law of supply and demand—to cultivate a big-picture perspective of the commodity markets as well as make more informed decisions when it comes to entering and exiting positions.

Straightforward and accessible, this invaluable resource is the result of a collaborative effort involving the world's top Point & Figure charting authority, Tom Dorsey; analysts who manage his organization's successful Corporate Commodity Account; and independent trading experts. Throughout these pages, Dorsey and company distill what they've learned from years of experience in the commodity markets, and combine that information with the proven principles of Point & Figure charting—leaving you with a comprehensive commodity trading strategy that will help you improve overall returns while reducing unnecessary risk.

Rather than rehash the basics of commodities—such as contract sizes, hours of trading, and other environmental influences—this practical guide outlines a logical, organized, and sensible system for trading and managing a commodity account. It explores the essential elements of Point & Figure charting as they pertain to the commodity markets; examines specific indicators that will enhance your understanding of prevailing trends; and presents practical case studies that will solidify the concepts discussed. Along the way, you'll also be introduced to a variety of commodity-related vehicles currently available in today's markets, from ETFs to mutual funds, and see how they differ from more commonly held futures contracts.

Touching on everything from relative strength tools and trading bands to momentum and matrix creation capabilities, Commodity Strategies contains the information you need to succeed in this field.

Good Extension of Dorsey's Point & Figure Work4
This is a unique book in the library of commodity investing. I agree with other's comments that the book does not cover the specifics of futures contracts and the mechanics of how they trade. The author is candid about this from the outset and there are many great books that cover that already - Teweles and Jones among them.

This book is ideal for traders already experienced in point and figure technical anlaysis and especially for those who have read and applied Dorsey Wright's point and figure methodology.

If this book is the first you are reading that deals exclusively in point and figure technical analysis, you may be disappointed. Tom Dorsey's other books are a prerequisite to this one.

A very valuable book for experienced point and figure craftsmen looking to apply such analysis to futures markets, but admittedly it may leave others feeling short changed. This is definitely not the first or only book somebody should read before attempting futures trading, but it definitely belongs in the library of a point and figure analyst.

Point and Figure. Sheer Point and Figure2
I had questioned myself many times before I started writing this review because I had not finished reading it yet, and I wont, for sure. The existence of this review simply means that my intention to warn you potential buyers of its overwhelming elaboration of Point and Figure Charts (and no other TA tool at all) won over any other consideration of being a prudent trader/reviewer. Some may argue that a single tool can already be very helpful if one uses it right. I doubt so. In fact, the authors did not teach how to identify those false breaks which are so prevalent nowadays. No matter what, if you want to read the most detailed elaboration on Point and Figure, please go ahead. If not, please give this a pass.
