Pretty good5
I like scooters. Must be that I never outgrew it as a kid. I bought this scooter at Sam's club for 209.00. A real steal considering the prices advertised on the web. I bought the 450w model a few years back and returned it for lack of juice. This one delivers pretty well. I weight 168lbs. and it carries me without issue. I have not stalled it yet but I can't imagine it carrying me up a San Francisco type hill. Moderate inclines would not be a problem at all. And for a 12 year old, it would really fly! The chain being gone is nice, I hope the new drive train holds up cause I think I'm going to hang onto this one. I do wish the technology existed to about double all of its specifications, at the same price, but hey, it is fun and if I had to commute a small distance, I'd say it would get you there quickly for an electric scooter. It would be lots of fun in a big warehouse or in the office. I rented segways and while not that powerful this thing is just as much fun for about $2800 less.

I expected more from a big name like Schwinn4
I was excited to open and put together this scooter, and was preparing to use it at Burning Man 2007. At home in testing, I charged it, and got about 3 miles out of it, and was very disappointed! After looking at it quite closely, I found the brakes were dragging due to out-of-adjustment and out-of-round brake rotors. I spent quite some time working over the brakes and adjusting them until both wheels were spinning free. Then I test drove the scooter right after a full charge. I measured with my car, the distance around the big block at 2.3 miles. I drove the scooter FULL THROTTLE and made it around that big block 5 times. Add the .3 miles (X 2) from the house to the stop sign where I measured it, and back to the stop sign once, that's 12.4 miles on one charge full throttle. That meets advertised endurance. Good job Schwinn!!

In the workover of the wheels, I'm very critical of the quality of a big name like Schwinn. I expected more. I didn't expect the brake rotors to be out-of-round requiring me to hammer on them to make it straight and true. I didn't expect the spring tention on the disk brake untis to be not strong enough to return the disks to their fully-retracted positions. In my opinion, Schwinn, who's been around for a long long time, needs to spend some more time and effort in quality assurance. Maybe even on the drawing board. If that drives the price up, I would gladly pay more to have a better product. I chose Schwinn because of the name as I was looking for quality and a company that stands behind it's product. I've owned a few of their bicycles and they've always been excellent products. With the other customer reviews, though, it appears Schwinn has been slacking back on these important aspects of business. I shouldn't have had to make major repairs/adjustments like the ones I described right out of the box. Other people who do not have the knowledge and skills I have would probably just return the product for a refund.

As for the scooter's performance at Burning Man 2007? EXCELLENT!!! I rode with two others who were on bicycles. Their speed was much slower than the capability of the scooter, so I was forced to keep my speed down. The shock absorbers on the rough parts of the playa made the scooter's ride more comfortable then the bicycles. We also stopped at many places to take photos, listen to the live music, look over the huge art projects, drink at some of the free bars, and watch the pole dancers. I drove it twice a day and got 3 hours out of each battery charge!!! I'm sure I exceeded the advertised 12 miles on each charge.

I hope this review reaches Schwinn. They have a good product. They need to raise their quality standards.

Awesome Electric Scooter5
I recently purchased this scooter at Sam's Club for $295...I travel to Key West , Florida a few times a year and thought this would be great to use in Key West...and I was right ! The scooter was well packed and had no damage, and came with everything in working order...it required very little assembly. This scooter is built really well...the frame is very solid, and the suspension does a nice job of smoothing out its ride. At full throttle, this thing really moves...however, it really is only for flat terrain or very slight hills...If you try to take it up a steep hill a safety/overheat circuit will cut in...and turn the scooter off...A fully charged battery lasted for about an hour at moderate speeds with occasional bursts of full speed throttle........If you use the scooter at full throttle it really cuts down on the run time of the battery...so I found that cruising at around 1/2-2/3 throttle was fine and still fast enough........This scooter is really fun to ride...and my only complaint is the seat gets a little uncomfortable after extended rides...( FYI ...I weigh about 195 lbs and this scooter had no problem moving me at all)...I am very happy with this electric scooter and recommend it highly !
