Excellent revision
This is billed as a revision of the early-1990s Kramer and Koen paperback, but it's really like a whole new dictionary. It fills a lot of inexplicable holes in the older book. The definitions are for the most part clear and intuitive. And the biggest thing for travelers and beginning students is that Indonesian words are listed as they appear--you don't have to deduce a root word, which the older edition and other Indonesian dictionaries make you do (fine if you've learned a bit of the language, but it makes a dictionary pretty much useless if not). The compiler is Australian, but as an American I have not run into any usage issues. Hard to see from the picture, but the book also includes an English-Indonesian dictionary and should also be useful for Indonesian speakers learning English.

review of Tuttle Concise Dictionary
It is NOT nearly exhaustive as I had hoped! In communication with Indonesians, many words commonly used are not in Tuttle CONCISE Indonesian Dictionary --emphasis is on the "Concise" not the 20,000 words contained in it! . . . .But it a vast improvement over the dictionaries in phrasebooks, etc.

Another small pocket dictionary but this one packs a punch
There seems to be a few small concise combined phrase books and dictionaries floating around on bookshop shelves these days. The dictionaries are usually very limited in these books due to size constraints.

This one however is a pure dictionary which is surprisingly comprehensive although very compact. I use this to learn the Indonesian language and it is useful to have both Indonesian to English and English to Indonesian translations. The print is quite small which could be hard to read depending on your eyesight but the words are written in blue followed by a definition in black which makes them stand out and be more easily found. Pronounciations are not included however, so if you're learning the language its probably best to do so with the help of additional aids used in conjunction with this book.

However, I find this book indispensible for finding meanings of words that are not used in common vocabulary. A good book overall and I can recommend it for people studying the language.
