This has 3 real practice tests and includes full explanations for each question on all 3 tests which allows a student to be extremely independent. It also has 3 prompts to use for essay preparation but no sample essays for those 3 prompts which is not helpful.

This deck of vocabulary flashcards is extremely comprehensive but I don't find many students have the discipline to go through the entire box. This approach might be useful for the rare student who loves expanding his or her vocabulary and is dedicated enough to patiently work through the box over a year's time. I happen to think reading to expand your vocabulary is a lot more fun!

For SAT Prep: if a student is scoring in the 550 range, completing this workbook can get them to the 650 range. It's a challenging workbook, so a student who doesn't like math or is scoring below 550 might feel overwhelmed.

My favorite of all the math preparation workbooks because the level of challenge is reasonable without being overwhelming for the majority of students. Also, one book prepares you for both the SAT and the ACT. As the author notes, you still must do lots of practice tests using the College Board or the Real ACT Prep Guide I mentioned.

I highly recommend the TI-89 for the SAT and the SAT Math Subject test. If you are upgrading to this calculator, this book can help you through the transition. You only need to do the first 30 pages (Algebra & Pre-Calc topics) and you can transition over a weekend. Sadly, the book is expensive. You will be able to use the book later if you take calculus.

An ideal reference guide if you use a TI-84 (which is the maximum functioned calculator allowed on the ACT).
