Product Description

Low-speed aerodynamics is important in the design and operation of aircraft flying at low Mach number, and ground and marine vehicles. This text offers a modern treatment of both the theory of inviscid, incompressible, and irrotational aerodynamics, and the computational techniques now available to solve complex problems. A unique feature is that the computational approach--from a single vortex element to a three-dimensional panel formulation--is interwoven throughout. This second edition features a new chapter on the laminar boundary layer (emphasis on the viscous-inviscid coupling), the latest versions of computational techniques, and additional coverage of interaction problems. The authors include a systematic treatment of two-dimensional panel methods and a detailed presentation of computational techniques for three-dimensional and unsteady flows.

Review
"Explanations and theoretical material have been put forward in a succinct systematic manner with numerous clear line diagrams....The reviewer particularly appreciated the material...on enhancement of the potential flow model. The assessment is realistic and offers scope for practical extensions....recommended to practicing aerodynamicists." The Aeronautical Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society

"This is a thoroughly modern and up-to-date high level academic textbook ... highly recommended." The Aeronautica Journal

"This book is a significant contribution to the aerodynamic literature. Several of my students have been able to begin their research careers in aerodynamics by reading and digesting this book." Journal of Fluids Engineering, A. T. Conlisk, Ohio State University

A must for anyone interested in panel methods5
Comprehensive in both theoretical and numerical presentation. The authors show how to model inviscid, incompressible aerodynamics using panel methods which are based on potential theory. They also show how to incorporate viscosity inside the boundary layer. I found the book's detailed treatment of panel methods for unsteady aerodynamics particularly useful. Most textbooks only show the steady state case. The book is very practical with very good description of algorithms. At the end of the book, you can also find sample programs developed by authors' students.

a lot of informations in a small book4
This volume is a quite complete course in low speed range aerodynamics. Even if the authors limit themselves to incompressible and irrotational fluid fieds, they present a complete course giving a substantial theorical apparatus with a logically developed computational methods.

The mathematical level is really excellent, since the presentation is thoroghly worked out with detailed explanation of each formulae or passage. The most enticing feature of this tome is the systematic treatment of computational methods with different approaches to them to obtain the full range of solutions. This is achived by implementing additional level of complexity along the process, showing the dependence of each function in numerical modelling.

Altogether, this book is a good start for understanding the computational techniques and the classic theory.

Comprehensive and Insightful5
This is a comprehensive textbook which covers in detail most of what an aeronautical engineering graduate interested in low-speed aerodynamics will find useful and handy. This is not a book for the novice but for those with good engineering and mathematics background seeking in-depth knowledge of the design and operation of aircraft flying at low Mach numbers and marine vehicles.

For the target audience, the book is well written with clear explanations and sufficient detail.
