Nothing short of astonishing5
Did you ever imagine a computer game in which you can summon a marble to roll up impossibly steep stairs and leap gigantic walls? How about sending it over fans, through mud, and even into space? And, to top it all off, how about losing a game by letting the marble fall off the track at a forty-five degree angle into the sky?

When we went to purchase Marble Blaster, none of that went through my mind. I had different expectations for this--but after overcoming the first mazes, listening to the zany sound effects, and jarring my nerves as I tried to keep my marble from falling into space--my expectations were shattered to bits!

The creators of this game showed tremendous imagination. Some challenges they put in to the seventy-three levels are a matrix of half-pipes, a Skee-ball replica, and a couple of tornadoes that will easily blow your marble off-course. Then, there are two mazes that will keep you trying to solve them for weeks! As you progress through the three skill levels, you'll come across different objects that'll cushion the marble after a gigantic fall, bounce it over walls, and warp gravity so that it pulls the marble toward the sky or the horizon. Above all, you have to beat each level within the time limit!

Sure, it's not absolutely everything that a creative nitpicker like myself would want; seeing an unchanging psychedelic marble after several years of use gets tedious, and--this was a major letdown--if you buy this, chances are that you're going to see a dormant "Editor" tab in the levels menu. After unlocking all of the game's levels, the tab still didn't work. I consulted eGames and learned that the tab is a holdover from the developers' work, so you can't create or customize levels. (Not to worry; this tab doesn't cause the operating system to crash.) Another setback: If you have a Mac OS or a version of Linux, this game won't operate.

Obviously, the cons are minuscule compared to the sheer genius and masterpiece called Marble Blaster. If you know nothing about it, then nevertheless, just get this product and be in for loads of surprises all the way through. Now if only there were a sequel to the game!

Sequel or not, two thumbs way, way up!

I talked my son into getting this instead of Marble Blast Gold because it was cheaper. We ended up getting Marble Blast Gold anyway.
