Customer Reviews
sublime traditional Japanese drumming
A little over a year ago, I bought the Portland Taiko Group's album, "Big Bang," a beautifully-made collection of traditional and modern flavors of Japanese drumming. This thunderous introduction to taiko instantly became a favorite in my collection and I hungered for more traditional music of Japan, so I picked up this album from Wadaiko Matsuriza. As much as I love the American group's work, master drummer Masaya Takashino's ensemble, based in Hachioji City, takes it to another level in this flawless recording.
Few genres of music have such an electrifying impact upon people of diverse origins as Japanese drumming, which is why recordings like this one continue to proliferate worldwide. Like the works of Bach, Beethoven, and the "Chant" albums from the Christian monks, it's an experience of sound that everybody can relate to and enjoy.
Foreign Colture
If you are a colture person this CD is for you. Enjoy the intence yet soothing sound of drums that sound with a story behind it. Every time I hear them I relize how disiplend they are. Enjoy.
