The ABC of AnarchismThe ABC of Anarchism by Alexander Berkman
Buy new: $11.01 / Used from: $6.00
This book made me realize that there are more options for us than just the ones given by our government. It also erased my ignorance and misgivings about anarchism.
BlanketsBlankets by Craig Thompson
Buy new: $19.77 / Used from: $14.68
This book really messed with me. It was scarily close to my life. The emotions and feelings that Craig goes thru, especially with relgion, are things i have dealt with for years. worth every penny.
The Irresistible Revolution: Living as an Ordinary RadicalThe Irresistible Revolution: Living as an Ordinary Radical by Shane Claiborne
Buy new: $10.19 / Used from: $5.45
This book helped me deal with my anger towards the church, and popular christian culture. It was nice to hear that i wasn't the only one who thought the teachings of Jesus were being misused. Shane lives out these teachings in ways i am too scared to do. good stuff.
IcelanderIcelander by Dustin Long
Buy new: $10.40 / Used from: $0.13
The most fun i have had reading fiction in a while. great characters, great plot, fun and challenging to read. really can't say enough about it. will re-read this many times.
LoraxLorax by Dr Seuss

This book says it all.
Imperial Ambitions : Conversations on the Post-9/11 World [American Empire Project] (American Empire Project)Imperial Ambitions : Conversations on the Post-9/11 World [American Empire Project] (American Empire Project) by Noam Chomsky
Buy new: $6.00 / Used from: $1.75
What will happen to the world when Chomsky leaves it? He is a source of knowledge and ideas that will be hard to replace. Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, to not read him is to ignore one of the best minds alive today. This easy to read book of interviews is a good place to start.
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy InactionThe Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction by the writers of The Daily Show

You think i am joking, but i'm not. This book taught be more about American history and government than any class ever did.
Speaking of Empire and Resistance: Conversations with Tariq AliSpeaking of Empire and Resistance: Conversations with Tariq Ali by Tariq Ali
Buy new: $11.65 / Used from: $0.01
A great mind and an engaging speaker. Like Chomsky, he should be read by people who agree and disagree with his views. Being originally from Pakistan, he has some very interesting things to say about the country that has been on the news so much lately.
Persepolis: The Story of a ChildhoodPersepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi
Buy new: $9.32 / Used from: $3.39
This is a great way to understand a confusing country. It is essentially the modern history of Iran thru the eyes of a child.
Waiting for God (Perennial Classics)Waiting for God (Perennial Classics) by Simone Weil
Buy used from: $0.73
a mystic? an anarchist? a theologian? whatever he title, she was an amazing woman, and hasn't been given the recognition she is due. my brain still hurts from reading this.
Hey, Wait...Hey, Wait... by Jason
Buy new: $10.36 / Used from: $5.30
This is the first time a graphic novel made me cry. it is wonderfully drawn, and the story is heartbreaking.
Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and SpiritIshmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit by Daniel Quinn
Buy new: $12.24 / Used from: $3.24
This book is possibly over-hyped, but that doesn't change the fact that it is incredibly important to read. With a borderline silly premise, this book doesn't seem like it would be full of ideas that will keep you up at night, but it is.
Iraq Under Siege, Updated Edition: The Deadly Impact of Sanctions and WarIraq Under Siege, Updated Edition: The Deadly Impact of Sanctions and War
Buy new: $40.00 / Used from: $23.26
I bought this book from a folk punk band called Ballydowse 8 years ago, and it changed my life. I could barely read the pages in it because i couldn't believe some of the things that had been done to the people of Iraq. And that was before the US invasion.
The Brief and Frightening Reign of PhilThe Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil by George Saunders
Buy new: $10.14 / Used from: $3.70
An overhanded absurd commentary on today's world that should be awful. but instead it's a biting satire that comes depressingly close to reality, while staying technically a millions miles from reality. wanted to hate it, but loved it.
Iran: Everything You Need to Know (All Access)Iran: Everything You Need to Know (All Access) by John Farndon
Buy new: $9.95 / Used from: $0.89
an incredibly easy to read quick history of this vastly conflicted country. I don't have any of histories of Iran to compare this book to, but i certainly learned much more than i was ever told in school.
Suicide CasanovaSuicide Casanova by Arthur Nersesian
Buy new: $12.44 / Used from: $3.69
I hated myself for loving this book, and hated the main character for making me root for him. I wanted to be rid of this book almost as much as i didn't want it to end.
Cosmopolis: A NovelCosmopolis: A Novel by Don DeLillo
Buy used from: $3.48
This is the only DeLillo book i have read, and i have been told its his worst. However i thought it was fantastic. engaging, thought provoking and short enough to not get boring. a bizarre look at wealth, rebellion and the mind.
Terrorism: Theirs and OursTerrorism: Theirs and Ours by Eqbal Ahmad
Buy new: $6.95 / Used from: $0.97
This very short book is worth every cent. Written pre-9/11, Ahmad eerily predicts situations that sadly came to fruition a fews years later.
Veronika Decides to Die: A Novel of Redemption (P.S.)Veronika Decides to Die: A Novel of Redemption (P.S.) by Paulo Coelho
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $1.99
My second favorite by Coelho, but the first that i read of his. An interesting look at despair and hope. I was disapointed with the ending when i first read it, but now i like it.
Is Belief in God Good, Bad or Irrelevant?: A Professor And a Punk Rocker Discuss Science, Religion, Naturalism & ChristianityIs Belief in God Good, Bad or Irrelevant?: A Professor And a Punk Rocker Discuss Science, Religion, Naturalism & Christianity
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $7.99
While this book certainly won't change any minds (i don't think), what it does do is give a good look into both sides of a popular argument. You won't walk away from this book enlightened, but you might have some empathy for the opposing view, whatever that may be.
The WhingdingdillyThe Whingdingdilly by Bill Peet
Buy new: $9.95 / Used from: $3.70
A classic about being yourself, and accepting others. Bill Peet was great.
Ya Basta! Ten Years of the Zapatista UprisingYa Basta! Ten Years of the Zapatista Uprising by Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos
Buy new: $19.67 / Used from: $13.22
I have not read this entire book, but it is a good start to understanding the EZLN and what they stand for.
By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept: A Novel of ForgivenessBy the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept: A Novel of Forgiveness by Paulo Coelho
Buy new: $10.07 / Used from: $3.83
my favorite of Coelho's. He is very formulaic, but it goes with his philosophy on life. this book borders on cheezy, but pulls it off in the end. a feel good book that makes you think.
Manhattan LoverboyManhattan Loverboy by Arthur Nersesian
Buy new: $11.92 / Used from: $1.79
I was drawn in at the start, and didn't like the middle. i thought the end was ok. then, a month after i finishedit, i realized it was great. The story is paranoid and absurd. Its like a Beat drug novel, except the drug is Ritalin and vodka.
Them: Adventures with ExtremistsThem: Adventures with Extremists by Jon Ronson

A very funny and scary book.
The Pinball Theory of Apocalypse: A Novel (P.S.)The Pinball Theory of Apocalypse: A Novel (P.S.) by Jonathan Selwood

This book is a lot of fun. Really weird, and a quick read. a great book for a plane or train ride.
