The author has a good take on childhood but I kept getting confused as to what era the story took place- thus making it a little unbelievable for me. But I would not say that I didn't like the book, I just wouldn't tell anyone to go out and read it either.

There was a lot of plot and a lot of very subtle romance and I get lost in the author's over description of everything. I am not a big Robin McKinley fan although I really liked her book "Beauty: a Retelling of Beauty and the Beast" so I had hoped to like this book more than I did.

I only read it because the author, Mette Ivie Harrison, read it for research for her book "The Princess and the Hound" which I had read recently and liked. I can't say this book is one I would recommend. If you like your romance novels set in outer space with stun guns and worm holes--this might be a book you'd enjoy.

Not the plot--a young girl seeks revenge for the murder of her two little sisters--but the authors lack of knowledge on the family's religion sent me through the roof. If you are going to write about a group of people--DO SOME RESEARCH! She had so many wrong statements about Mormons it was pathetic.
