Ok for older kids, but only if they spend loads of time on it
This one was advertised for ages 4 and up, but my 5 year old is not well suited for it (my 8 year old loves it). You cannot turn the v5's off and you cannot pause a "family" to return to it. If you take the battery out you're saving the battery and turning the toy off, but you're not pausing the game (i.e., family). It starts completely over when you reinstall the battery. If you don't mind your child lying around spending endless hours raising a Tamagotchi family in fear that they will fly off in a space ship to their homeland if they're ignored, then this is the toy for you. For some kids, this toy is disturbing and upsetting, because they have parents who do not allow them to waste every moment on the toy and their "family" leaves for their homeland and they have to start all over. I know of one 9 year old who gave hers away because it was so controlling in this way.

Cute toy but kids get bored of it fast
had bought one of these for my childs birthday since she been wanting one for awhile now,but almost a month after having it really got bored of it and didn't want to play with it as much anymore so the virtual pet would usually be left alone to keep beeping to have her care for it, I have played it a few times and to me even as an adult it gets boring fast. they are cute but can get old fast since everything in the game is the same and all you can really do is buy tamagotchi things with points you earn with tamagotic world online, and I really don't want my child on the computer 24/7 because of this thing. so next time I will look up the item better before I buy it for a child.
