Customer Reviews

Espectacular!!!5
This is a stellar collection of music videos, spanning Alejandro's career since he began recording. The seventeen videos are: "Brumas," "Piel de Nia," "A Pesar de Todo," "Como Quien Pierde Una Estrella," "La Mitad que Me Faltaba," "Nube Viajera," "Abrazame," "Si Tu Supieras," "En El Jardin," "No Se Olvidar," "Loco," "Nadie, Simplemente Nadie," "Quiereme," "Hablame," "Quisera," "Tantita Pena," "Si Tu No Vuelves."

These videos range from the romantic to the incredibly sad. Several require that you keep a box of tissues handy. Many of the images recall novela scenes (although Alejandro has never acted in one), with scenes of courtship, passion, loss, death, and suffering. The period-piece videos have interesting photographic effects, with the use of soft focus, sepia tones, spot colors, and composition that recalls an earlier time. Most, especially the later ones, have images of passion and romance to blow away the fainthearted and to make one's abuelita blush.

Since the videos are presented in production date order, you get to watch Alejandro go from a slightly geeky kid of 20 in "Brumas" to the very sexy 30-something he is in "Tantita Pena," which is the "production number" of this DVD as well as the most musically interesting song. "En el Jardin," the duet with Gloria Estefan, is very pretty with nature images and good close-ups. They sound wonderful together. The romantic scenes get progressively better as you go along; the ones after 1996 are truly marvelous. The kisses are hotter than entire love scenes in almost any U.S. production. Another extremely cool thing about these videos is that some of the women whom he makes love to in them are Televisa actresses; Joana Benedek, Katie Barbieri, and some of the women in "Hablame" are recognizable from novelas.

Also on the DVD are a discography, biographical information, and some behind-the-scenes footage. It is excellently produced with an easily navigable menu, and truly fine sound. It's a must-have for true romantics. And for the ladies: Be prepared to take a very cold shower after viewing this DVD and make sure your boyfriend never finds it.

BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL5
This collection of videos has to be the most beautiful that I have ever seen. The other reviews already said it all, I just have to add that I had not seen any of Alejandro's videos prior to watching this, and I was STUNNED.

Not only is he beautiful to look at and listen to, but the cinematography on this is just gorgeous. Each video is filmed almost as if it were a mini art-house film, with the exception of the first ones (they look as if his father, Vicente, was behind the camera!)

And for Mr. Larsen from Norway that asked if any concert tapes or dvds were available, the answer is yes. I obtained 2 excellent concert tapes of Alejandro.....one is a concert in Santo Domingo.....the other from Viña del Mar in Chile......both show up occasionally on ebay. There also is a dvd/vcd of Alejandro and Vicente from 'Lazos Invencibles' concert in Ecuador. I also bought that one on ebay.....but that may be available elsewhere.

A brilliant singer!4
A friend of mine asked me if I could manage to obtain for her a video or DVD by this, to me, totally unknown singer. She had been to Mexico and heard him played everywhere, and later on she had seen him on the Christmas in Vienna concert with Placido Domingo,- shown also on Norwegian television because of Domingo.

I found this DVD in the Amazon list and ordered it. I watched it before handling it over to her, and was really surprised to discover both the really rare quality of the voice and the charisma. Actually, I watched it at least ten times!

I have since ordered several of his CD's, and I am just as impressed by them, although I do not understand Spanish, and do not really have any knowledge of this kind of traditional Mexican music. It's just so nice to discover a young man who sings beautifully without all the mannerisms of most modern popular stars. He is almost like Edith Piaf or Melina Mercouri,- I can understand what he is singing about without knowing the words! I especially enjoyed the double CD with his 2002 concert of Mexican songs from the 20th Century, including marvellous renditions of Granada and Besame Mucho, songs also known to Scandinavians.

Alejandro Fernandez is completely unknown in my homeland, and his products cannot be ordered through any music store, except for the DVD and video of the Vienna Christmas concert,- marred by the presence of the terribly mannered French chanteuse Patricia Kaas. I do really recommend this, although I am a grown up man and usually not a customer of pop videos/DVD's. The reason for giving only four out of five stars is the lack of English subtitles on the portrait interview included on the DVD. Does his record company want his name known outside Spanish speaking countries, or do they not? I am completely aware of the Spanish-speaking aera being huge, but still.... I have already introduced the man and his music to several young Norwegian singers in the folk, jazz and musical-field, and they all want to go out and buy...

By the way,- can anyone inform me and my friend if any of his concert appearances are available on video or DVD, maybe in Mexico? Amazon regrettably only lists an out of stock concert video, without second hand offers. We do both own NTSC compatible VCR players and DVD players adaptable to Sone 1. And we would be in gratitude for ever!
