Classic movie starring Peter O'Toole as Henry II.
The Lion in WinterThe Lion in Winter
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.88
Another classic Henry II movie starring Peter O'Toole. Katherine Hepburn is perfect in the role of Eleanor of Aquitaine. It is based on a play and takes place over Christmas in 1183- talk about an emotional roller coaster! The dialogue is quick and witty. You won't be bored.
The Lion in WinterThe Lion in Winter
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $3.25
Remake of the original this time with Patrick Stewart and Glenn Close. It got flack for not being as good as the classic, but I think this version is equally fantastic. This story is based on a play, so the dialogue and some of the staging is virtually identical to the original.
Braveheart (Special Collector's Edition)Braveheart (Special Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $4.27
Not really focused on the monarchy, but it does feature Edward I and his son, the future Edward II. I do not know of any other movies related to monarchs of this period.
Princes in the TowerPrinces in the Tower
Buy new: $20.99 / Used from: $11.50
A low-budget drama surrounding the trial of Perkin Warbeck, a pretender to the throne during the reign of Henry VII claiming to be Richard of York, the youngest prince from the tower. It provides an interesting theory of what happened to the princes, and to it's credit it disclaims that it is only ONE of many theories. Not bad.
Henry VIIIHenry VIII
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $4.64
Not a bad miniseries. Ray Winstone's cockney accent takes a bit of getting used to as he makes Henry come off as a cockney thug more than an English King at times, but that aside, it's not too bad.
The Six Wives of Henry VIIIThe Six Wives of Henry VIII

Lady JaneLady Jane
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $7.04
A bit slow, but it's the only movie surrounding Lady Jane Grey and Mary I that I know of. I'm still waiting for someone to do a movie that focuses strictly on Mary I.

Masterpiece Theatre: Elizabeth I - The Virgin QueenMasterpiece Theatre: Elizabeth I - The Virgin Queen
Buy new: $23.49 / Used from: $47.30
Not a bad Elizabeth biopic, though Anne-Marie Duff is more convincing during Elizabeth's younger years than older- The aging make-up is not the most realistic.
Elizabeth (Spotlight Series)Elizabeth (Spotlight Series)
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $4.20
I add this only in the name of being complete. While the sequel has several redeeming qualities in its artistry, this one...not so much. It doesn't so much as use dramatic license as it just makes stuff up. I don't even know why they changed the facts, but what should be the most basic facts are so blatantly wrong, I cannot imagine what the screenwriter read for background research!
Elizabeth - The Golden Age (Widescreen Edition)Elizabeth - The Golden Age (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.92
If you're looking for historical accuracy, forget the Cate Blanchett movies. However, the dramatic license actually works in this movie. The cinematography, soundtrack, and symbolic dramatizations blend perfectly to impart the feeling and implications of the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots and the Spanish Armada.
Elizabeth IElizabeth I
Buy new: $16.49 / Used from: $10.50
Probably one of the best, most realistic Elizabeth I dramas I've seen. Helen Mirren is a true powerhouse and fits her character to a "T"

The Last King - The Power and the Passion of Charles IIThe Last King - The Power and the Passion of Charles II
Buy new: $12.95 / Used from: $3.93
A little slow at times, but it's not bad. I don't know of any other movies about Charles II. Rufus Sewell does a good job balancing Charles' playboy behavior with his shrewd kingly demeanor. Overall, a good watch for an anglophile.
The Madness of King GeorgeThe Madness of King George
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $3.92
A bit odd, but watchable.
Victoria & AlbertVictoria & Albert
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $6.89
A very good miniseries about the early reign of Victoria. The miniseries touts itself as some epic love story, but I would not call it a chick flick by any means. Great film.
Mrs. BrownMrs. Brown
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $6.21
Judi Dench is cast perfectly as the stoic post-Albert Victoria as rumors circulate about her relationship with her footman John Brown and the near collapse of the monarchy for her refusal to come out of mourning for Albert.
Edward the KingEdward the King
Buy new: $52.49 / Used from: $36.00
A little dated, but beyond that a superb miniseries. It actually begins not far into Victoria's reign and features her more prominently than Edward for several episodes. It's cast well and if you're ever confused as to how all of the royal houses of Europe are connected after Victoria, this will definitely straighten it out. A must see!
The Lost PrinceThe Lost Prince
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $9.95
Absolutely fantastic! Although it focuses on Prince Johnny, the epileptic youngest son of George V and Queen Mary, there is A LOT of historic and political context to it and emphasizes how WWI tore the royal families of Europe apart.
Wallis & EdwardWallis & Edward
Buy new: $22.49 / Used from: $12.43
Not a bad film about Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson. But it is definitely sympathetic to the couple, which for some might be a controversial point of view.
Bertie and Elizabeth: The Reluctant Royals - The Story of King George VI & Queen ElizabethBertie and Elizabeth: The Reluctant Royals - The Story of King George VI & Queen Elizabeth
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $10.50
A great film about George VI, the shy, stuttering younger brother of Edward VIII who is forced into the limelight he never wanted upon his brother’s abdication. It is VERY anti-Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson. Both he and Queen Elizabeth (his wife, not daughter) rose to the occasion of ruling in spite of their fears and ought to be commended as two of the finest monarchs England has ever had.
The QueenThe Queen
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $0.88
Helen Mirren has made a career of playing English Queens: Elizabeth I, Charlotte (in the Madness of King George) and here in Elizabeth II. Once again she delivers a performance worth every bit of the Oscar she won for it.
