Customer Reviews
Dissappointed
Throughly pleased with Randall McCutcheon's other 3 Minutes A Day book for the SAT essay, I purchased this book with high hopes. While this book was far more interesting than other books, the lack of examples and obvious tips made this book not very helpful. Then again, one does have to realize that it is difficult to be both concise and comprehensive. For a quick review of the verbal section, this book is great. However, if you need intensive help with reading, I would suggest a different book (or just more practice). The practice passages in the end particularly irked me. The passages were informative and interesting, with one or two follow-up questions. These passages, however, are not reflective of the real SAT, which usually has obscure or boring passages. This book is a fun read, but lacking in true practice material.
Not the best guide nor the worst guide
For years and years have I studied for the SATs. I always seem to fail in the Critical Reading section even though I have received much advice from English teachers. This 3-Minute SAT Critical Reading book will surely save you a lot of time, for it sums up what I learned in the past three or four years. It also makes learning fun. By presenting caricatures, the author makes the tedious materials fun. I highly recommend this book to those who are struggling in reading comprehension like me.
BEST BOOK AVAILABLE!
Although there are many reasons you could score poorly on the SAT, this book is not one of them. I own a number of these prep guides and this book is by far the best for preparing to do well on the Critical Reading portion of the exam. It's clear, it's useful, and it teaches you the strategies you need. And it's fun to read.
If you only buy one book for the SAT Critical Reading portion of the exam, this should be the one.
