This consumer guide is filled with more than 1,400 listings of green retailers, service providers, and organizations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. The businesses are divided into categories and have a minimum green requirement to be listed. Some of the categories are further recognized with a "green leaf" award, which gauges green businesses on a scale of one to four leaves, four being the greenest. The award is based on a measure of a business's sale or use of green products and services. At the beginning of each category, the evaluation criteria is provided. Among the listings are everything from organic restaurants and grocery stores to dry cleaners, organic pest control services, and sustainable building suppliers, landscapers, and interior designers.

Claims to cover San Francisco Bay Area...it doesn't2
2 stars for a great design and good information, however it's incomplete. The listings cover half of the San Francisco Bay Area. It goes as far south as Palo Alto on the peninsula and Hayward on the East Bay. There are no South Bay listings. San Jose is the largest city in the Bay Area and I have yet to find one listing from San Jose. This is unfortunate since a huge population of SF Bay Area citizens are left out who are very eager to support green businesses and reduce their carbon footprint.

I think the intent of this book, the design, the concise information, easy readability, and layout are fabulous. I hope that future editions will include a more complete coverage of the San Francisco Bay Area.
