“A wonderful job of telling a horror-love story based upon an actual event…I read it in one sitting – couldn’t put it down.”

Rev. Elder Troy Perry, Founder

Metropolitan Community Church

“Well written…one of the most macabre events in Key West’s annals.”

Norman Artman, former Editor-Publisher

The Key West Citizen

“Tom Swicegood has given new insight into the strange love of Count von Cosel for Elena Hoyos…exciting and lively…kind and gentle…as the Count would have told it.”

About the Author
VON COSELTom Swicegood is a master storyteller. His Von Cosel takes its place among the finest full-bodied tales of Key West, most notably Reap the Wild Wind by Thelma Strabel and the gutsy To Have and Have Not by Ernest Hemingway. The notable difference is that this infamous tale, having thrilled and chilled millions in newspaper reports, pulp magazines, and by word of mouth, is not fiction. Here, at last, it is presented by an accomplished author who actually knew the people involved.Other books by Tom Swicegood, either currently available or soon to be published, include:OUR GOD TOO?the human and spiritual story of the founders of Metropolitan Community Church.THE INTOXICATED TAXI?ribald and hilarious adventurers in the cab of a member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Customer Reviews

True life creepiness.5
I really liked this book. I read Undying Love before I read this book and although I like that book alot I'd have to say this one is better. It reads like a novel and at time I felt like I was actually there with Von Cosel. It really makes the Key West of the 30-s + come alive. I couldn't read it fast enough. This book differs from the afore mentioned book in many ways and I've heard some complaints from people who knew people from this time, bit this one is magnetic. It takes hold and won't let go. If you want a good scare and love being creeped out this is the book for you. If you read only one Von Cosel book this is it.
