The many black-and-white action photographs allow readers to see each exercise, drill, or play under discussion. Weatherspoon also includes stories about her family and the sport that she loves. She emphasizes that she has bad days on the court and that every mistake should teach a lesson. Although Faye Y. Miller and Wayne Coffey's Winning Basketball for Girls (Facts On File, 1992) has much of the same information, the personal anecdotes and up-to-date photographs make this title especially appealing. An excellent resource for sports collections.

About the Author
Teresa Weatherspoon (New York, NY and Pineland, TX) is one of the top stars in the WNBA. Named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in both 1997 and 1998, Teresa is a member of the New York Liberty. She has been on two U.S. Olympic teams, winning a gold and a bronze medal, and has also played professionally in Italy and Russia. Tara Sullivan covers basketball and football as a staff writer at the Bergan Record in New Jersey. Kelly Whiteside is a staff writer at Newsday covering football and women's sports.

Teresa's Book is good for giving instructions for those who dont know that much about basketball and she gives you stories to relate to.

Great instructional book. Best yet.
Teresa Weatherspoon's Basketball for Girls is not only the best instructional book for basketball that I have read, but it also gives girls an inside look at one of today's positive role models, which has been sorely needed.

Recommended reading for every girl!
What a fun book! "Spoon" has always been an inspiration (so what if I don't have her jump shot). The skills she teaches in the book are wonderfully presented but what makes this book special is her inspirational comments about teamwork, success and family. It's great to have a book just for girls, and with the success of the WNBA it's about time! Even if you are not into playing basketball, it makes great reading for someone who just wants to watch and appreciate the game. And this 30+ year old girl loved it! I can't wait to buy copies for my nieces.
