Product Description

Trish McEvoy has created one of today's most successful skincare and makeup brands by listening to women's needs and empowering them to take control of their own beauty. She creates products and provides techniques that make it easy to learn how to be your own makeup expert.

Trish McEvoy: The Power of Makeup offers a revolutionary new system to unlock the secret to your makeup style. Learn if you are a Level 1,2, or 3, and then follow Trish's step-by-step instructions for creating your unique look and organizing your routine to fit your busy lifestyle.

What's Your Level?

Level One: Makeup is not a driving passion in your life. You live in casual clothing and you love the natural, simple look. Trish will help you find the bare necessities you need.

Level Two: For you, makeup is a lot like putting on clothes; it's an everyday essential. You wear makeup like a second skin. You feel more comfortable and confident with how you look in makeup than without it. Trish will help you refine your look.

Level Three: For you, makeup is a means of expression. You like to play and have fun with it and you're game to try false eyelashes and other high-impact effects. Trish will show you how to pull out all the stops for your most glamorous look.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
"What's not to love about makeup?" asks McEvoy, a makeup artist to the stars and the founder of an eponymous cosmetics company, in this highly polished, vividly photographed and clearly written how-to makeup manual. According to the author, "there is simply nothing that is more transforming or more glamorizing" than makeup. To prove it, McEvoy focuses on three tiers of make up users: light, medium and max, and methodically describes specific application techniques for each level and their results. Also offered are basic lessons on skin care, hints on sifting through and discarding old cosmetics, ways to restock with the right tools, and methods to determine what you need (and avoid getting taken for a ride) at the cosmetics counter. Even though the models in her book boast perfectly sculpted cheekbones and creamy complexions, McEvoy offers plenty of suggestions for the less-than-exquisitely featured reader. And who can doubt McEvoy is a true believer in the power of makeup when the priestess of cover and blush proclaims: "My love for brushes has never diminished"? This heart-felt approach to the power of powder and eyeliner will make even the most cosmetic-weary woman reconsider the merits of make up. 223 color photos.

Autobiography?1
Although this book was somewhat helpful deciding what products were really necessary in my makeup bag, I felt that it was more of Trish McEvoy's autobiography than anything. If I want to read a book on makeup, I would like the majority of information to be ON makeup. Granted, it is good to know who the author is and how they know what they do, I do not need to know everything about her experience and her husband's job. In some places, it did have fairly average how-to information. If you want to know more about makeup and what looks good, I would suggest reading any of the Bobbi Brown beauty books.

Should be called "ode to makeup"2
This is a coffee-table book, not a helpful how-to book. I can see how someone who is already very knowledgable might like it, as it is almost a sonnet to makeup.

I had been hoping for something to help me start applying makeup after many years away from it, and I found only about eight pages that were useful to me. I bought this as an investment in my own personal grooming, and as that it fell completely flat. I gave it two stars because it is not totally without merit.

I am so disappointed.2
I have waited for years for this book (and am still waiting for the web-site). I met Trish in London at Harvey Nichols. She is full of life, knows exactly what she's doing, and has a true gift; however, this book does not showcase any of her talent. Where is the instruction? The basic editing that would tell you that it should be Cherry Red Lip Gloss not Sherry Red Lip Gloss on the back cover and page 129 fails. Sherry Red Lip Gloss is not made. It is a tiresome typo. Page 18 is credited with Deep Aubergine Definer when it is clearly Deep Amethyst. She says foundation before concealer in the book but the directions on her concealer say to apply BEFORE foundation. Help? Her own portrait on page 20 is not credited. I had to call three stores, Dallas, Boston and New York, to try and find out what she is wearing in the picture. Needless to say all three Trish experts had differing opinions about what make up she is wearing. All the brushes she mentions are called by a name but you have to order them by a number so you must research and match names and numbers to get the right product. Finally, the aging section is frightfully weak, (I am 37) when you consider that the women who can afford Trish are not twenty etc. I can't help but think that Trish was pushed into this book, and it was a one draft disaster. I own only Trish McEvoy Cosmetics and Brushes. After this disappointing effort, I am going to check out Sonia at Target. Sorry Trish, but her book is better in every way. I only hope her products are as well.
