Buy new: $22.31 memory is important i will recommend at least 2gb worth. transcend is an affordable 4gb. make sure to check for compatibility when choosing other brands and/or size(s).
subjectively i believe sandisk is the best brand and recommend it if your budget allows. go to bensbargains.com or dealnews.com for great compact flash deals.

Buy new: $99.95 / Used from: $99.90 this is hands down is the best bang for the buck lens, though the quality & speed is not as good as the 1.4($319), 1.2($1,359), & 1.0 ($4,210). nevertheless, the quality is still really amazing. if you want to be a good photographer practice with this prime lens. it will help aide the development of proper framing of pictures. this lens is great for portraits (good bokeh) & low light.

Buy new: $449.95 / Used from: $300.00 though the kit lens is decent i feel it doesn't do justice for the camera. instead i recommend the 17-85 IS for its versatility. it is a good walk around lens and has IS. ideal for travelers with a budget.
if your primary focus is on portrait shots and don't care for the IS i would recommend the tamron 17-55 f2.8.

Buy new: $92.85 / Used from: $69.95 optional but recommended for your 17-85 lens. if given a choice to get one filter get the uv circular polarizer (manufacturer matters on polarizers).

Buy new: $639.95 arguably the better budget lens over the canon 70-200L f4. the telephoto provides an extra length (100) & IS, though the build & quality are slightly inferior to the "L" grade lens the image quality is still amazing & well worth the compromise. if you don't care about the features go for the canon 70-200L f4.
note: just get the lens don't get accessory kit.
