Her mother's parting words were, "Keep up your courage Sarah Noble" and Sarah has many times to live up to those words in her story. I think boys would enjoy this story as much as girls.

Catherine Vos has such a wonderful way of telling the Bible stories (and she tells them in chronological order, not Bible order). She also looks forward to Christ's coming, mentioning when some event looks forward to his coming. My girls (7 & 5) both love listening to this book.

She's afraid that by speaking up, her "friend" will turn on her. I think all young girls should read this book, esp. as they get to that age where the merciless teasing begins. (I think this book is better for girls than boys.)

I think a girl should be about 10 years old when they first read this book, otherwise some of the plot will go right over their head (although there is nothing whatsoever inappropriate in this book for any age). Read it to yourself even if your kids are too young to enjoy it now.
