Average customer review:Product Description
With its solo set-up, more subdued speeds, and endlessly varying events and courses, autocross is the easiest, safest, and least expensive way to get into motorsports. Anyone with a helmet and a car can do it. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have some driving skills, which is where this book comes in. As a veteran racer and professional driving coach, Ross Bentley knows what it takes to compete and to win, and he gives readers the benefit of that knowledge in Speed Secrets 7: Autocross Driving Fundamentals
The first in the Speed Secrets series to address a specific form of racing, this volume focuses on the skills critical to autocross success: car handling and driver skill at high speeds on unique courses. Though slower than other motorsports in absolute terms, autocross, with its high number of turns per minute, can challenge even the most expert driver. Adapting his time-proven method of teaching drivers how to go fast, Bentley clearly details the steps and techniques that help autocross drivers maintain control and dominate a course at speed. Though specific to autocross, and essential to mastering its particular challenges, his advice and instruction in this book will prove invaluable to drivers who go on to road racing as well.

About the Author
The author of six previous Speed Secrets
Per Schroeder is Technical Editor at Grassroots Motorsports and Classic Motorsports magazines, a vocation that has led to the word “schroeder” being added to our lexicon. As used, for example, in the sentence, “Well, ya really shcroedered that up, didncha?” Schroeder comes from a long line of racing geeks, and has won more than a few SCCA National Tours, Divisional Championships, and Solo II National trophies. He is the author of Volkswagen Sport Tuning for Street and Competition from Robert Bentley Publishers.

Detailed planning is key
I thought this was a great book to help me look at how I can improve in my Solo racing. This book goes into great detail on not just driving techniques, but the need to plan before and after your runs. He covers topics I wouldn't have thought of as helpful to really improving my times. This is my 3rd season in Solo and I think it will be invaluable as I move up a class this season to try and become a better driver. If there is one thing to take away from the book, it's to remember to fix the driver before you try and fix the car.
I think this is a great book for everyone who Solo races whether novice or seasoned veteran.
Great reference
If you have read the first speed secrets book, there is a lot of duplicated info but if not the book stands on it's own well. Great reference!
Top Notch
This book encompasses everything that an autocross driver needs to know without any extra fluff. There is a lot of info here for such a short read. I recommend that this book be combined with regular autocross events to practice what is learned. It also helps to visualize yourself in the car doing the techniques you just learned. The "Speed Secrets" text pops out every couple pages to summarize a lesson into a single repeatable phrase. There is even a list of all the "Secrets" at the back of the book if you don't take notes well. I recommend that both novice and veteran drivers alike read this book. You will find something that helps.
Buy it, read it, apply it, you will be faster.
