The events Finigan took part in are now legendary. For the famous Paris Tasting of 1976, Finigan recommended many California Cabernets and Chardonnays that shockingly outpointed their French counterparts. With nine of the world's most distinguished wine tasting professionals, he conducted the re-evaluation of the 1855 Bordeaux classification — the first in 140 years. He has stepped into the private kitchens of Julia Child, M.F.K. Fisher, James Beard, Jeremiah Tower, Michel Guerard, and Jean Troisgros, and sipped wine with Robert Mondavi, Ernest Gallo, and Kermit Lynch — to name just a few of the luminaries profiled in this delightful collection.
As much a chronicle of the developments in food and wine as it is a memoir of the man who witnessed them, Corks and Forks is sure to whet anyone's palate.

corks and forks
lots of vignettes about bob's "adventures" and memories about the beginnings of the wine affair that is in America now.. Very entertaining.
An Absolutely Wonderful Book
If you love food and wine and are interested in the people who excell in making both, then this is the book for you. Bob Finigan has written a wonderful book that takes you right inside the world of haute cuisine and fine wines and it is fascinating, not to mention at times, laugh out loud funny. I think you will enjoy this book.

Dr F hits a Homerun
Bob Finigan, in addition to his love and vocation for food and wine, is a noted baseball analyst. In a word, he has hit a homerun with Corks and Forks.
This book is a culmination of a life well led in the food and wine industry. Finigan gives provides an in depth perspective of the people who have made the news in the business. At once personal and affectionate, detailed and humorous, provocative and incisive. This book is a can't miss read for people who care about food and wine.
What was Julia like? How did Jerimiah Tower get started? Why is Bob Mondavi revered by everyone in the wine trade? It's all here.
Very attractive size/shape of the book, including Bill Hamilton's 1979 classic cartoon from New Yorker Magazine with the caption "Look, Finigan. The great meals you've had are no greater than than the great meals we've had."
Actually, I want to change my mind.. Finigan's book is not a home run..it's a grand slam.
