Amazon.com Review
Providing myriad options, this automatic bread maker embodies the marvels of 21st century electronic convenience and choice. Yes, it mixes, kneads, rises, and bakes bread in three loaf sizes up to 2-1/2 pounds. But its digital controls go much further, offering settings for white, whole wheat, multigrain, and French (crisp crust, open texture) breads, each made according to what's best for that particular style. Other settings permit rapid baking and baking sandwich bread with a soft crust. For raisin (or other dried-fruit) bread, a beeper signals when to add the fruit so it's not crushed during kneading. Crust color--dark or light--can be selected as well.
The machine automatically adds yeast at the proper time from a dispenser on the unit's lid. It also bakes non-yeast, quick breads-- like banana and gingerbread--and sweet cakes. And it mixes, kneads, and rises doughs for pizza, focaccia, croissants, and other pastries without baking them. A timer permits the machine to be programmed up to 13 hours in advance so fresh bread or cake is available for breakfast or dinner. For cleanup convenience, the baking pan is nonstick. Clad in metal and packing 550 watts of power, the machine measures 14 inches wide, 13.5 inches high, and 9 inches deep. Its instruction booklet is exceptionally easy to understand and includes recipes for 40 breads and doughs along with an insightful guide to baking basics and illustrated tips for making pastries. --Fred Brack

Quality breadmaker, Fast and Easy
This is my first breadmaker and I did a lot of research before buying it. I went with Panasonic for their quality, reliability, and ease of use. I was tempted to get one that would do jam, but the reviews were not as good. Combining too many functions into one machine appeared to compromise the quality. This breadmaker comes with a recipe book with all kinds of yummy bread, but I am such a sucker for yummy white bread that that is what I make most of the time. It takes me 7 minutes from when I get everything out on the counter to when I put all the ingredients away. I haven't gotten lazy about making bread because it is quick and easy and the result is delicious preservative-free bread. I store the breadmaker on the floor of my pantry, and it's not a pain to get it out. Clean up is a snap and it's not noisy/annoying. Good luck!
Good Machine
I was a little nervous to try a different brand of bread machine. I'd had a Westbend model for twelve years and it was a trusty machine. It still works, but I was looking for a 'longer' loaf of bread instead of taller, and because we make bread often, I thought the larger size would be better for our needs. I did my homework and checked out all different makes and models and read review after review. The Panasonic SD-YD250 showed great promise and I decided to see if I agreed.
My first loaf of bread was a flop, even though I followed the recipe to a 'T' from the Panasonic recipe book that came with the machine. I also made the same recipe in the West Bend machine, and that flopped as well, telling me that maybe one of my ingredients were possibly bad. I decided to try my old recipe book that I had picked up from a store several years ago that was tried and trusted, using the same ingredients without buying new. Still, a flop. By now I was a little perplexed. Then I decided to try one more thing before I gave up all together and sent the machine back. I decided to follow the order in which the ingredients should be put in according to my West Bend booklet, putting the liquids in first, and warming the water/milk a little. Since then, every loaf has turned out amazingly well, despite not changing ingredients.
I have not used all of the cycles yet, but have tried many. I have just chosen not to use the recipes that came with the machine and will always use my favorites from the other recipe book, and follow the West Bend method.
I am amazed by the quietness of this machine. My other machine was very loud and obnoxious, and we could never make bread overnight because it would wake us up with it's noise.
I am happy with this machine so far; it just took a little bit to get the exact loaves of bread I was looking for!
WOW!
My bread machine just arrived 2 days ago and I've already made 2 perfect loaves of bread. The machine was completely quiet. I just dumped in the ingredients, set it, and let it go. The clean-up was super easy as well. Love this machine!
