No kitchen should be without a good Amish cookbook. We get all their delicious recipes, including their flaky pie crust. Also, there are some "semi-homemade" recipes for when you are in a hurry.

This hardcover book is so interesting. It includes recipes soldiers and families ate during the Civil War period. It includes quotes from soldiers, lots of pictures, and historical information. Recipes include Pork Pie with Green Beans, Indian Pudding, and Salt Pork.

Sometimes, you just don't have the time to make a meal from scratch. This is a great book of easy recipes that don't take a lot of time.

This is truly a must-have for anyone wanting to live a more old-fashioned lifestyle. This book contains just about everything you need to know to live off the land. There are more than recipes in this book, there are gardening tips, how to pickle and preserve and make dairy products, maple syrup, and different crafts and directions to build things like a chicken coop and raise healthy animals.

If you want to know how they cooked before ovens, this is the book for you. There are techniques on open-hearth cooking, as well as recipes. I would love to try this someday!

If dad enjoys cooking, too, this is a good book. The food is great, and there are lots of interesting facts and tidbits about retro barbecuing.
