Not fully tested, but has promise
I bought this kite at a grocery store just because it looked neat and we were getting into kite flying. It is neat looking, but I wouldn't buy it for a young kid to go out and fly, get the standard kites first. In a light wind, where other kites will go up, this one won't. The first time we tried it we couldn't get it over 10 feet. We tried the X-kite butterfly kite and that one was quick and easy to get up in the same wind. The next day the wind was stronger and after several tries, this one was starting to go up. Still, it doesn't seem balanced right and I couldn't see a way to adjust the string. Plus, once it starts going up, you really have no control over it. If the wind dies down, this comes down, so it needs a fairly strong, 10 mph maybe, and steady wind. Plus, we had houses too close by and I wasn't confident with the control of it, so I didn't let it out far.
Nice to have, but it doesn't work in all situations.
Small update. We took it to an open park on a windy day and this thing took off just fine. It still goes out more than up, but that was okay. It is a fun, pretty kite. Best in open windy areas. As a backyard kite, probably not such a good choice.
