Puerto Rican Rythmic Pulse
Last night, Jerry Gonzalez and Co. decided to play an improptu gig at the San José square in Old San Juan. I have to admit that it was by far one of the best live performances I have witnessed in my lifetime. Although the place was almost empty on account of the lack of promotion, the few spectators that had shown up were taken on a journey across many timezones, borders and musical frontiers. The entire set was the best to ring my ears in a very long time. Jerry Gonzalez has to be one of the best musicians to spring from Puerto Ricos' rythmic pulse. I have to say that anyone interested in Afrorican music must check out Jerry Gonzalez and Fort Apache.
