No characters inspire me more than Atticus and Scout Finch. This is the novel I return to most often...each time getting as involved with these characters and the story even though they are all so familiar to me. I want to be or at least know someone like Atticus and always have the curiosity of Scout.

Rich, memorable characters in search of self and strength make me love the story, the power and beauty of Walker's words make me want to read it aloud!

Catherine Marshall's book set in the Great Smokies shows the dignity and character of people often overlooked. These characters will become a part of you.

This children's book came along far too late for me to have read it as a child, but luckily, a GREAT, well-written book for children can hold an adult's attention too. Bud Caldwell's story will have you laughing and crying and cheering for this spunky kid!

Like The Bean Trees and Where the Heart Is, this book involves a strong and inspiring character searching for a sense of place and belonging. I love this book!

I love all of the Lowcountry Tales by Dorothea Benton Frank. I recommend starting with her first book and moving along with her. This isn't exactly a series, but if you read them in order you get a wonderful feeling of belonging, of being an insider, as you keep reading. You're getting to know a community of people, and it's a community I want to join.

McBride's family shows that anything is possible with the drive, determination, and character to go for it. His mother's courage and grit are inspiring!
