![]() | Monkees by The Monkees
Buy new: $24.98 / Used from: $13.89 Here it is, the album that started it all. Released in 1966, their debut album quickly hit #1 in the US charts. Some of the best tracks include, "Gonna Buy Me a Dog", "Last Train to Clarksville", and "Papa Gene's Blues" (written by Mike Nesmith). The 2-disc release includes many bonus tracks including "I Can't Get Her Off of My Mind".

![]() | More of the Monkees by The Monkees
Buy new: $24.98 / Used from: $13.99 In 1967, their second album was released. It too quickly reached #1 in the charts. Standout tracks include "Sometime in the Morning", "Steppin' Stone" and "Mary, Mary" (also written by Mike Nesmith). This album also included, Neil Diamond's "I'm a Believer" which became one of the biggest selling singles of the decade.

![]() | Headquarters (Deluxe Edition, 2 CD) by The Monkees
Buy new: $24.98 / Used from: $14.29 Also released in 1967, this recording like its predecessors became #1 on the charts. It was also the first recording that featured the Monkees playing the instruments themselves, with very small help from session musicians. My favorite tracks are "Shades of Grey" and "You Just May Be the One" (another Nesmith Tune).

![]() | Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd(Deluxe Edition, 2CD) by The Monkees
Buy new: $24.98 / Used from: $17.99 This was their third album released in 1967. It was a busy year for the guys. Top tracks include, "Words", "What am I doing Hangin' 'Round?" and "Pleasant Valley Sunday" (written by Carole King).

![]() | The Birds, the Bees & the Monkees by The Monkees
Buy used from: $20.31 In 1968 things started to get a little rough for the Monkees. Their TV show was cancelled, their movie tanked and Peter Tork quit the group. This was also the first album not to reach #1, but stayed steady in the #3 slot. "Valleri" and "Daydream Believer" are the most well-known tracks on this album. The latter included Peter Tork on piano since it was actually completed in 1967.

![]() | Head (1968 Film) by The Monkees
Buy new: $8.96 / Used from: $3.51 1968 saw the release of the soundtrack to the Monkees one and only movie, "Head". This would be the last album to feature Peter Tork until the reunion in 1987. I've gotta say, I don't really get this album. There's a lot of strange sounds and weird effects with the music. It's by far my least favorite. "Porpoise Song" is probably the most well-known track on this album.

![]() | Instant Replay by The Monkees
Buy used from: $23.99 And then there were three...
Released in 1969, this album didn't really do much in the charts. The single, "Tear Drop City" only reached #56. The best tracks of the album were Micky's "Just a Game" and Mike's "Don't Wait for Me."

![]() | The Monkees Present by The Monkees
Buy used from: $27.99 Released in 1969, this would be the last album to include Mike Nesmith until the second reunion in the mid 1990s. It was originally intended to be a 2 disc album with three of the sides being devoted to a single member of the group. With sales down this idea was nixed and a traditional one disc album was released. Mike's "Listen to the Band" is the most memorable song on the album.

![]() | Changes by The Monkees
Buy used from: $14.90 Welcome to the seventies! In 1970 the foursome became a duo with just Micky and Davy hanging on. The album's single, "Oh My My" was in the top 100 on the charts, but the rest of the album was essentially forgotten. This was the last album of the Monkees original run.

![]() | Pool It! by The Monkees
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $5.99 Ahh, the eighties. With MTV airing reruns of the Monkees, the boys had a whole new group of fans. Micky, Davy and Peter decided to get back together and give it another go to cash in on their renewed fame. Sadly the new album didn't catch on. It's single, "Heart and Soul" did, however chart at #89 in the top 100.

![]() | Justus by The Monkees
Buy used from: $2.94 Finally, the nineties. For the Monkees 30 anniversary all four decided to get togther again. All songs were written and performed completely by the Monkees themselves. It peaked at #200 on the Billboard charts and never really found their audience. Despite it's flaws it is an interesting effort and most likely the last of the Monkee albums.

![]() | Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart by Jones, Boyce & Hart Dolenz
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $7.65 Micky and Davy team up with Boyce & Hart(the writers of many Monkee hits) for this album. Not strictly a Monkees album, but worth noting.
