Album Description
All-Star Bands have been a long standing tradition at the annual Monterey Jazz Festival. Starting in 1966, the Festival assembled master musicians under the "Monterey All-Stars" moniker. For the festival's 50th Anniversary celebration last fall, MJF put together an All-Star band that would never be forgotten!
Since such incredible musicianship and artistry could not go unremembered, the newly formed Monterey Jazz Festival Records is proud to bring you this live recording of their stellar performance.
Featuring trumpeter TERENCE BLANCHARD, vocalist NNENNA FREELON, pianist BENNY GREEN, bassist DERRICK HODGE, drummer KENDRICK SCOTT and legendary reedman JAMES MOODY, this CD was recorded live at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Sept. 23, 2007.
About the Artist
This is the FIRST-TIME ASSEMBLY of this INCREDIBLE BAND OF MUSICIANS. Combined, these artists embody the past, present and future of jazz history.
Their performance at the 2007 Monterey Jazz Festival was MESMERIZING, and is now CAPTURED LIVE ON CD!
The net proceeds realized by MJF on the sale of this CD will go directly to SUPPORT ITS YEAR-ROUND JAZZ EDUCATION PROGRAM

Great Memory of Monterey
I was fortunate enough to attend the Monterey Jazz Festival in 2007 and hear this group live. This is certainly a great combination of talents: vocalist Nnenna Freelon, trumpeter Terence Blanchard, saxophonist James Moody and pianist Benny Green. This is a good compilation of jazz as well: a little bebop, some West coast cool jazz and some vocal standards. Because this was a live performance, you get to hear full length performances in all their glory. It's not as good as being there, but it's close.
benny is a genious
It's a great band with top music with the Monterey Musical Director Benny Green who is maybe the best pianist after Oscar Peterson
