Review
ABYSMAL DAWN unleash a virulent strain of modern death metal on the Los Angeles-based quartet s Relapse Records debut Programmed to Consume. The band s metallic assault thunders with all the hallmarks of death metal s finest traits; power, speed, precision, and intensity. As tracks such as Grotesque Modern Art, Walk the Path of Fire, and the title track prove, ABYSMAL DAWN are an explosive new force in American death metal. --relapse records

...an evil strain of death metal that balances brutality, song writing, great lead work, and enough technique to get their point across without falling into the tuneless-noise-disguised-as-technicality pit that so much extreme music falls into --Metal Maniacs

this band is programmed to stomp!5
Abysmal Dawn definitely has my attention right now. they have an ever-changing rhythm in their songs. their vocals and guitarwork vary from song to song. I have yet to hear a bad song. they are all good. if you don't have this album in your collection, this is the album to buy.

Not impressed1
This is the same old death metal that you can find in a thousand other stores with the same sound but different name.

not impressed at all.

78/100, An album brimming with potential.3
Programmed To Consume is my first Abysmal Dawn album. These guys are definitely a solid group of death metal musicians that metalheads everywhere are going to want to keep an eye on. I really dig the singer, he has some really deep growls but goes up an octave or two every once in a while for variety. Even if Abysmal Dawn ends up not working out, this guy is going places. The guitarwork is pretty solid, it's nothing all that technical but it keeps things moving. They have some good riffs here and there, but it's almost entirely rhythm work. The bassist is fine, again nothing special but doesn't let things fall apart either. The drummer is particularly exceptional. He's very fast and very brutal, one of the better drummers I've come across in the death metal genre. My top tracks for this album are "Cease To Comprehend", "A Remission Of Life", and "Compulsory Resurrection". This album to me just screams potential, I think if they could make the guitar parts more interesting then these guys could really be a force to be reckoned with.
