watercolor Depth5
A very well written book. As a fellow watercolorist, I found the book inspiring and full of great exercises. I would recommend this book for the intermediate watercolorist. The ideas for creating depth are very helpful since value and contrast are difficult but necessary.

Watercolor Depth And Realism: 5 Simple Techniques For Adding Dimension To Your Paintings5
Laurie Humble easily walks a reader through her book with her examples and techniques explained under each photo. I find this book easy to follow capturing the focal point and the idea of how to accomplish this in painting. Showing the before and after photos is very helpful to a person just learning about watercolor and for an advanced student it reinforces the technique. I also like the way Laurie uses shadowed boxes through out her book to emphasize various points that are helpful to painting a wonderful or great looking piece of art. For example "How Creative Can Color Get?", "Train Yourself to Look for Color", and "Forming an Object by Painting Around It"......

Ultra-realism and drama for your paintings4
This book has some good advice on adding drama to your paintings by changing viewpoint, perspective, overlapping objects and using detail. Some of the example painting are quite eye-catching and really make you look. Everyday objects (socket wrenches, matchsticks) take on remarkable character when painted with these attitudes.

This is not a book for the beginning watercolorist. It's more suited to those who have mastered the basics and are looking for ways to add drama and punch to their artwork. It is particularly helpful for those who enjoy ultra-realism.
