Customer Reviews
awed mom!
whew! i just put this thing together and i have to say it is THE coolest. it took me probably an hour (only because i am not that good at nautical knots) and i am really impressed with the quality of this toy. the detail is incredible. the price is very affordable, especially considering the quality of this ship.
i was looking for a muti-purpose "pirate ship" and bought this particular ship because of the playmobil name, the great price, and the fact that it floats as well as rolls around on wheels. it's really hard to find bath toys for a five year old.
i can't give you feedback as far as my son (soon to be five) is conserned because it is a bithday gift (now how do i wrap this??). but honestly if he dosent like it; i am apt to keep it for myself!
i plan to buy maybe a castle or the vacation home next. i just hope he lets me play with them once in awhile!!!!
tip: as with most playmobil sets, give yourself an hour or two to assemble them if you would like your child to be able play with them as soon as they get them.
p.s. this toy does come with 5 hand guns. since this is a concern of mine, by putting it together before giving it to him i had the opportunity to toss these before he gets his hands on them. plus, i will tell him the swords and knifes that come with it are for cutting up fish and fruit to keep away scurrvey.
oh yeah, and of course all the treasure that is stolen by the pirates is distributed to the poor!!
Love's this toy
The Playmobil Pirates sets are perfect for young children with vivid imaginations. This is my 4 year old's favorite toy. We spend countless hours sailing the high seas together. He has selected the 'skeleton' from the Pirate Island set as his own personae and we call him Captain Bones. The ship is very well made and has withstood many dramatic battles against "the bad pirates". The details are what he most enjoys, like the treasure, swords, goblets, lamps and other small items that come with these sets. Whenever I chase down Captain Bones with the shark figure, trying to take a bite of his boney leg, my son laughs with joy. And that makes this set my favorite toy as well: most of the time I am watching him and the smiles rather than the pirate my son has assigned me. You will get months and months of use out of this set.
UPDATE: He is now 6 years old, and STILL plays with this set a whole bunch. A couple pieces have broken now after almost a year and a half of very heavy play, but it has held up well to use and still maintains its quality. The small hook on the bowspirit (the pointy mast on the bow) broke, so the foresail doesn't attach anymore, but he doesn't seem to mind. The shark is still trying to catch Captain Bones almost daily :)
My Son loves this ship!
Both my boys, aged 6 and 3 (the younger being a little under-ag for this toy) simply love this toy. It's robust and is hanging in there so far (about a month into the deluge). There are MANY small parts so my sofa has also been enjoying the toy, but the good news is there are so many parts the boys don't seem to notice when one or two go missing.
My only complaint is that the mechanism for weighing the anchor is a bit lame, but they seem to enjoy "fixing" it each time it pops off the deck.
