Not what was suggested
I bought this book because it was suggested it was good for learning aspects. Not so, not really. It's not a horrible book, however It is not one if your wanting to really learn aspects.
Not above average
I think the logic of this book is little bit confusing. It is about classical astrology, but the book does not follow what it promises. It is a mixture of classical and 'modern' astrology, making a soup of everything. I was disappointed; have had long history of interest in astrology as part of history of science. I was looking for clear, well-written classical astrology book, but there is the basic stuff of modern planets and even asteroid, plus some interesting parts of old astrology. However, the mixture is not balanced, at leat for beginner who cannot know what to take into account, what to be left out.
concise, easy to read, covers a lot of material
this book was a great overview of concepts already familiar to me as well as the introduction of others. kevin burk writes in a familiar and easy to comprehend way, using humour as well as an ongoing analogy, comparing the planets to actors and explaining things this way.
i particularly liked his explanation of receptions, dispositors and explaining the dynamics and mechanics of dispositor trees and how to incorporate them into chart readings, as this was an area that i was unfamiliar with and had yet to find a concise explanation from another author.
he also spends some time discussing the essential dignities and debilities, giving useful analogies to help in comprehending them and how the planets function when dignified or debilitated.
finally, in the end of the book he ties together all the concepts that he has explored by using the previously explained methods in chart interpretations so you can see how it all works together as a whole.
i found this book immensely helpful and full of great information, and presented in a way that was both engaging and easy to understand. prior to this i was reading a lot of arroyo and found burk to be a new and refreshing outlook. his approach to this book was systematic yet not dry at all.
