Album Description
Children's favorite Dan Zanes follows his 2007 Grammy Award winning CD Catch That Train with a collaboration with Latino musician friends from New York. These family songs, all sung in Spanish, represent various styles including son jarocho, cumbia, aguinaldo, bailecito, nueva canci¢n and merengue. Featured guests include: Lila Downs, Daphne Rubin-Vega, The Villa-Lobos brothers, Marc Ribot and Afro-Colombian roots ensemble La Cumbiamba Eney‚.

Nueva York! is maybe the most all-around likable family record of 2008. The crazy-haired former Del Fuego has once again packed a panoply of A-list players onto the bill (see “Colas” featuring the, always impressive, Marc Ribot, and “La Bruja” with Lila Downs). For non-Spanish-speakers, the appeal of the playful, all-Spanish Nueva York! is its open invitation to vibe along with a multitude of hip styles free of the the need to feel lyrically on top of things (always a relief for parents). Spanish speakers, meanwhile, get to experience the full fiesta, wackadoo lyrics (see “Pollito Chicken”) and all. Cumbia, son, baquata, and merengue rhythms propel these these 19 tracks but there’s no need for genre-parsing: each song, in its way, is a freewheeling musical pinata. -Tammy La Gorce

a joyous Spanish-language celebration a terrific primer for ninos and an even better dance-party disc for their folks. --Entertainment Weekly

Fanaticos think it's fantastico!!5
My son is a Dan Zanes groupie (he's been to six of his shows). He's been listening to him since before his second birthday and has been looking forward to new music for quite some time. My son is half Cuban, so hearing DZ sing in Spanish is very significant for him. It's a welcomed addition to our Dan Zanes and Friends collection. In short, this cd is like a big party for my three and a half year old, yet sophisticated and cool enough for his parents!!! Viva Dan and Friends!! Our favorite tracks: Colas and Polito Chicken...

More great music for EVERYONE (this time in Spanish)!5
Dan Zanes and Friends latest release features all that you love about the band: wild, energetic collaborations and quieter songs with tremendous raw beauty. Esta vez, todas las canciones están en español! They've come a long way since "Malti."

You may enjoy this CD if:

---you're interested in fun, party music that the kids will love---and that doesn't drive you crazy!

---other kid-friendly acts drive you nuts and you want to keep Hannah Montana and High School Musical at bay as long as you can.

---you want to broaden your child's outlook and worldview.

Our faves: Son Borinqueno, El Pijul, El Canario, Palo Bonito, Compadre Pedro Juan, Cuida El Agua, El Pescador, Colas, Verde Luz, & Mi Luna. Yikes, that's a lot of favorites! There are not many songs we don't like on the CD. If Pollito Chicken doesn't get you moving, see a doctor!

This collection of favorites from several Latin American countries is, as Dan says in his concerts, his pro-immigration CD. In the liner notes, Dan calls this a "pro-love-your-neighbor" CD. It definitely has that effect. My (very Swedish) 4 year old asks me to translate every song for her and wants to play and sing along. She was once very shy with people who spoke languages she did not understand. Getting some familiarity with Spanish has made her far more comfortable with our non-English speaking neighbors. She tries out a little Spanish on our Colombian and Mexican neighbors, and she is trying to help a Slovakian friend learn English. Thanks, Dan, for giving our kids a great time while provoking interest in Hispanic culture and vital social issues.

Muy Bien!5
We now own all of the Dan Zanes cds and love them all. Nueva York has taken slightly longer to warm up to, but that's only because I don't understand all of the lyrics (my spanish is rusty) so they take longer to learn! I love having the diversity in our music collection. You will not be able to refrain from dancing and clapping along with many of these songs! It's a great "windows down, music turned up" in the car cd. Buy it! And while you're at it, buy all of Dan Zanes' other cds too! My husband and I both have his music on our iPods because we love it as much as our 3 year old son! Dan Zanes offers the best kids/family/folk music out there, hands down.
