Product Description

Three-year-old Foster explains his perspective of his older brother, Gavin, who has autism. This adorable picture book shows readers the challenges the boys face and the obstacles they overcome. Vibrant photographs bring you right into their living room, school and playground, adding an essential element of reality to the story. Foster’s innocent approach is perfect for teaching others what autism is all about, and for letting other siblings of children with autism know that they are not alone. Angie Healy, the boys’ mother, provides a how-to section at the end so families can create their own personalized books.

Customer Reviews

Great for helping children to understand autism!5
I just read this book and it is a great way to explain the characteristics of autism to young children. Autism is a very complex subject and it's very hard to bring it down to a child's level. My son has autism and has many of the traits mentioned in this book. The author explains them all very well. The author gives suggestions on how to personalize the story for other families/children. This is great - then you can take your personalized story to your church, school or even young members of your family to help them to understand autism.

The best book I've found about Autism!5
This book is truly the best book to explain Autism to a child or a sibling of an Autistic child. The text is easy to understand and relate to as a child and the pictures are amazing. I have a son with Autism and this book helped to explain to my younger son without Autism why his brother does some of the things that he does. I am also a 3rd grade teacher and I have read the book to my class and they really enjoyed it and related to the book. We had lots of great discussions and they have a much better understanding of Autism. I also love the way that the author has given suggestions in the back of the book to how you can personalize this book for your own loved one with Autism. I would recommend this book to anyone that needs an easy to understand book about Autism.

Great, great book for a sibling5
We LOVE this book. We have a NT daughter, age 4 and a 6-yr. old son with ASD. This book really gets it. Simple but perfect. The words are short and to the point as it is written as a toddler would speak. Lots of big pictures to show what the words are conveying also. I can see this as being a great book for classmates and friends also.
