About the Author
Jennifer Trainer Thompson is an accomplished cook, a James Beard Award nominee, and author or coauthor of seven cookbooks and two nonfiction books. Her articles have appeared in the New York Times, Travel & Leisure, Diversion, Omni, and Harvard. The owner and chef of the Jump Up & Kiss Me brand of food products and hot sauces, an avid sailor, and prolific Ten Speed poster producer, Thompson lives with her family in rural Massachusetts.

Decent book, but you can do better
When I first received the Great Tiki Drink Book as a present, I was quite happy. The recipes were good and had a lot of variety. But as I used it I noticed the lack of attention to detail. Trying to follow along with a recipe is an exercise in frustration because the book isn't spiral bound so it won't lie flat and stay open to a particular page; the appendix make some attempt at helping you find certain ingredients, but doesn't do a very good job. I've since acquired several more Tiki Drink books and would recommend the Beachbum Berry books as superior to this one. The recipes are better researched and the form factor is much more conducive to trying out a new recipe while standing at the bar with liquor bottles in your hand.

Tiki Time
The Great Tiki Drink Book is an excellent introduction into the drinks that were spawned from the tiki culture. The book starts off with an introduction to the tiki culture tracing its roots from Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic in the late 1930's to the present day tiki revival. The drink recipes are easy to follow and there are handy footnotes on where to find certain unusual ingredients that are part of the recipes. The book also contains tiki inspired food recipes that will help you create your very own tiki party.

Cocktail dream!
Great little book to have around. Not only does it have great recipes, but tips and trivia to go along with them. The appetizer section is to die for and you have resources for everything. Great for novice on up. This is one I will keep close at hand.
