By an Amazon.com customer
Soldiers Under CommandSoldiers Under Command by Stryper
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $6.00
Of course, we'll start with the record that started Christian Metal! Soldiers Under Command is still one of my favorites.
To Hell with the DevilTo Hell with the Devil by Stryper
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $5.97
Probably their best release ever. If you can find the album cover with the four Heavy Metal Angels throwing the devil into hell you win 1000 points.
Bloodgood/DetonationBloodgood/Detonation by Bloodgood
Buy used from: $31.98
Bloodgood started around the same time as Stryper. They had a heavier sound with very straightforward lyrics.
Human Sacrifice/Once DeadHuman Sacrifice/Once Dead
Buy used from: $42.59
The Slayer of Christian Thrash. Roger Martinez's sounded like he gargled nails. The cover art for Human Sacrifice sure stirred up some controversy in the Christian music scene.
WhitecrossWhitecross by Whitecross
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $23.77
If you liked Ratt, you'd love Whitecross. Scott Wenzel sure sounded like Stephen Percy! This self-titled album was their first.
Hammer & NailHammer & Nail by Whitecross
Buy used from: $14.71
Another classic by Whitecross.
Triumphant ReturnTriumphant Return by Whitecross
Buy used from: $9.99
Sporting a little more polished sound, Triumphant Return is probably my favorite Whitecross album. Some catchy hooks here.
Fire It UpFire It Up by X-Sinner
Buy new: $22.98 / Used from: $12.98
X-sinner was the AC/DC alternative for young Christians back in the day. I think this is a repackaging of their first two albums, Get It and Peace Treaty.
Silence is Madness (LIMITED EDITION SERIES)Silence is Madness (LIMITED EDITION SERIES)
Buy used from: $70.52
Horrible production, but great music. Bride at this time had their own sound, but later evolved into a more Guns 'n Roses meets Skid Row.
Under the RuinsUnder the Ruins by Xalt
Buy used from: $28.50
Xalt had their own sound. This was a melodic hard rocker that still holds it's own today
One Big SkyOne Big Sky by Novella
Buy used from: $14.00
I still wish Novella put out albums today.. The created near perfect melodic metal in the vein of Harem Scarem, Jaded Heart, or Pink Cream 69.
A Liquid EarthA Liquid Earth by Novella
Buy used from: $2.31
The only other disc put out by Novella. If you love melodic metal, this is a must have.
Extraction from MoralityExtraction from Morality by Believer
Buy new: $17.95 / Used from: $39.32
Believer's Extraction from Mortality is a thrash disc that I still listen to often. The guitar work is amazing and the sound is very tight.
Sanity ObscureSanity Obscure
Buy used from: $14.89
Believer's second disc. They used a full orchestra on this album and blended it perfectly with their heavy thrash sound. I actually saw them in concert at Cornerstone '91 as they toured for this album.
The Crucified [CD on Demand]The Crucified [CD on Demand] by The Crucified
Buy new: $14.97 / Used from: $12.71
Speed Metal/Thrash/punk with some of the best sounding drums ever. I love this disc. Mark Solomon went on to lead Stavesacre years later.
Pillars of HumanityPillars of Humanity
Buy used from: $18.46
The Crucified tighten up their sound to pure thrash metal mayhem. The guitar licks on this album are the best there are.
SmashSmash by One Bad Pig
Buy used from: $41.85
What can you say about the Pig? You just have to experience their punk/thrash/comedy music. This was their first album. I originally bought it because it had a keyboard with an X through it! Isaiah 6 is still one of my favorite songs.
Swine FlewSwine Flew
Buy used from: $14.87
A second helping of the Pig. Music is tighter and the lyrics are still as outrageous. they cover a Larry Norman Christmas song as only the Pig can do. The Pig's cover of the classic Petra song "Judas Kiss" is worth the price of the disc all by itself. The famed Bob Hartman of Petra did the guitar work.
I Scream SundayI Scream Sunday
Buy used from: $5.87
The Pig's last full studio album. This is a classic if their ever was a classic. Who can forget their cover of Johnny Cash's Man in Black, where Johnny Cash actually sings with them! I saw them at Cornerstone 91 and had a blast!
Rock for the KingRock for the King by Barren Cross
Buy used from: $34.55
thank the Lord there is no cover picture here. Very embarassing I must say! But the BC's first album is good; a little rough around the edges.
Atomic ArenaAtomic Arena by Barren Cross
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $5.96
BC's first major release. This is a great album, from the first song to the last. The production is way above Rock for the King. Mike Lee sounds almost exactly like Bruce Dickinson and Jim LaVerde is an equal to Steve Harris on bass.
State of ControlState of Control by Barren Cross
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $7.44
Another well polished album from Barren Cross. Here we see a slightly more pop metal album, but that isn't so bad. Out of Time is an instant classic. 2000 Years is probably the best Barren Cross song ever written. At almost 10 minutes long, the comparisons between BC and Iron Maiden have to be recognized.
First WatchFirst Watch by Guardian
Buy used from: $18.91
Guardian's first album is drastically different then the rest of their discography. This is pure pop hair metal all the way. Tony Palacious is a phenomenal guitar player.
Fire and LoveFire and Love by Guardian
Buy used from: $15.65
Ah, now here is the bluesy metal that Guardian is known for. Jamie Rowe is the new lead singer and has the perfect voice for Guardian's sound.
Bottle RocketBottle Rocket by Guardian
Buy used from: $1.50
Guardian has a pretty good discography, so I'll just pick one more of my favorite albums - Bottle Rocket. Bottle Rocket is just pure good Hard Rock at it's best.
Stop the Bleeding/Psycho SurgeryStop the Bleeding/Psycho Surgery by Tourniquet
Buy used from: $18.99
The first two albums by Tourniquet are a must have for any metalhead, Christian or not. Combining classical and thrash/speed metal Tourniquet led the way for quality Christian metal. on a funny note, I hear the new 3 Inches of Blood and automatically thought they sounded like old Tourniquet!
Pathogenic Ocular DissonancePathogenic Ocular Dissonance by Tourniquet
Buy new: $21.49 / Used from: $64.34
Tourniquet hits home run number 3!If you think the title is hard to pronounce, try reading some other song titles! Last album with Guy Ritter on vocals.
Vanishing Lessons (+6)Vanishing Lessons (+6) by Tourniquet
Buy used from: $19.95
First album with new singer Luke Easter. Instant classic. Gone are the speed metal/thrash tunes with heavy classical influences (because Gary Lenaire and Guy Ritter left the band) Just awesome heavy metal here. Every song a keeper.
Burn This RecordBurn This Record by The Lead
Buy used from: $4.94
pure primal punk here. The Lead was way ahead of their time. Now you can download their entire discography from iTunes for like $12!
Weapons of Our WarfareWeapons of Our Warfare
Buy used from: $14.45
Deliverance's second album (I can't find their first self titled on amazon. If you can find it, buy it immediately! 6 stars out of 5). Deliverance was the Christian version of early Metallica. The title song even got some play on Headbanger's ball.
What a JokeWhat a Joke by Deliverance
Buy used from: $16.81
Very good musically, but lyrically a very strange disc. The boys of Deliverance are very angry, and probably deservedly so. Their record label wasn't supporting them at all. The Big D's cover of Silent Night is something not to be missed! Deliverance put out about 4 or 5 more albums, but they just aren't speed metal at all.
Carnival WorldCarnival World by Seraiah
Buy used from: $49.85
kind of a poor man's Motley Crue. The album is ok, but just never hooked me at all
Rebellion/Master's CommandRebellion/Master's Command
Buy used from: $39.97
The Christian Queensryche, almost literally. Sacred Warrior was awesome! Rebellion was their first album, while Master's Command was their second. Both albums are required listening for fans of Queensryche.
CrystavoxCrystavox
Buy used from: $16.95
again, some very influenced by Motley Crue music. Production is actually pretty good on this disc.
Mommy Don't Love Daddy AnymoreMommy Don't Love Daddy Anymore by Rez Resurrection Band
Buy used from: $55.72
Awesome classic rock from one of the oldest Christian rock bands around. Check out all of Rez Band's albums. Glen Kaiser can sing (and sing the blues too!)
Civil RitesCivil Rites by REZ
Buy used from: $8.50
my all time favorite Rez Band disc. Perfect blend of blues and metal. Highlights include Lovespeak and Lincoln's Train.
Step on ItStep on It by Jet Circus
Buy used from: $4.17
truly unique sound. Can't even compare them to anyone else. They used a heavily distorted bass a-la Cliff Burton.
Greatest HitsGreatest Hits by Angelica
Buy used from: $53.16
Angelica was an a truly great band. With Dennis Cameron on guitar, the band changed sounds on almost album. My favorite is Rock Stock and Barrel.
Holy SoldierHoly Soldier by Holy Soldier
Holy Soldier's self titled debut is pure pop hair metal all the way. The disc is well produced and sounds very clean!
Last TrainLast Train by Holy Soldier
Buy used from: $10.98
Last Train is Holy Soldiers 2nd effort, and it is very well done. Their cover of "Gimme Shelter" is excellent.
